In the distant past, {{Term|TotK|Rauru|link}} leads the {{Term|TotK|Six Sages|link}} in a battle against {{Term|TotK|Demon King Ganondorf|link}} {{Term|TotK|Beneath Hyrule Castle}} to bring an end to the {{Term|TotK|Imprisoning War|link}}. With no other choice but to sacrifice himself, {{Term|TotK|Rauru}} relies on the {{Term|TotK|Six Sages}} to distract the {{Term|TotK|Demon King Ganondorf|display=Demon King}} long enough to grab hold of his chest and bind his heart, simultaneously draining his {{Term|TotK|Magic|link}} in the process. This sacrifice traps both of them in place for millennia while {{Term|TotK|Rauru}} waits for {{Term|TotK|Link}} and {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} to arrive in the {{Term|TotK|Era of the Wilds|link}}, where they can destroy {{Term|TotK|Ganondorf}} with the {{Term|TotK|Master Sword|display=Sword that Seals the Darkness}}.
