The Royal Ancient Lab,(TotK | HWAoC)[1][2] also known as the Ancient Research Institute,(BotW)[3] the Royal Tech Lab,(HWAoC)[4] or the Ancient Tech Lab,(HWAoC)[5] is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.

Features and Overview

Breath of the Wild

The Ancient Research Institute was a facility established for the sole purpose of researching Ancient Technology.[3] It was placed on the North Hyrule Plain in Hyrule Field in proximity to Hyrule Castle, one of three known sources of Ancient Energy,[6] to remain under the control of the Royal Family of Hyrule.[7] After the thorough destruction of the Ancient Research Institute during the second Great Calamity, it was abandoned and became the Royal Ancient Lab Ruins. Robbie and Purah fled and formed their own individual laboratories in the two other known sources of Ancient Energy, the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab in the Akkala Highlands and the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab in Hateno Village, respectively.

The Royal Ancient Lab is seen in the "Road to the Ancient Lab" Scenario. Impa and Zelda, accompanied by Link, travel to the Royal Ancient Lab in order to request Purah and Robbie's aid in researching the newly-discovered Diminutive Guardian.[5] Through their research, Purah and Robbie learn that the Guardian acts as an amplifier for Ancient Technology.[citation needed]

Back then, Robbie and I did whatever we pleased at the Royal Ancient Lab...

    Age-reversal-experimentation explosions. Warping-failure explosions. Explosion-prevention-device explosions.

I recall us trying things that likely would have gotten us tossed out if Impa and Princess Zelda hadn't covered for us.

Impa scolded me often, but never too harshly. Those were fun times.

I haven't decided where to hide three of my four diary volumes yet. Hmm.

It seems like a good idea to hide one of them away in my own room...

I've been at Lookout Landing a lot lately. Maybe I should go back to the lab in Hateno Village to place the diary.
