The Champion's Tunic is obtained from Impa in Kakariko Village after Link relives one of his Recovered Memories.[8][9] The Champion's Tunic mirrors the signature blue cloth worn by the other Champions, which are decorated with the symbol of the respective tool each Champion must wield against Calamity Ganon. As Link is the Hylian Champion, it is marked with the silhouette of the Master Sword. According to its description, it is only given to individuals who have won the respect of the Royal Family of Hyrule.[2]

When worn, the Champion's Tunic gives Link the ability to see an enemy's Life Gauge with a total numerical amount of their remaining health.[2] The Champion's Tunic has the highest potential defense of any Armor present in the game, with a maximum defense of 32. It cannot be Dyed at the Kochi Dye Shop, nor can it be sold. The Champion's Tunic is not part of any Armor Set, though it consistently appears matched with the Hylian Trousers in promotional media, in each of Link's Recovered Memories and at the end of the game if Link has recovered all of his lost Memories. Similarly, the two aforementioned pieces of Armor are also paired with the Hylian Hood when Link is seen on horseback in promotional media.

During her travels with Link following the Great Calamity, Zelda noticed that his Tunic of Memories was becoming worn and decided to replace it with a new one.[3] The original Tunic of Memories is destroyed by Ganondorf when Link and Zelda encounter him Beneath Hyrule Castle. After reading Zelda's Diary, Link learns that Zelda has hidden its replacement in the Throne Room of Hyrule Castle, which are the Champion's Leathers.[3][10]

A copy of the original Tunic of Memories can be purchased for 400 Poes after all the Bargainer Statues in the Depths have been encountered.

When worn, the Tunic of Memories gives Link the ability to shoot sword beams from the Master Sword regardless of Link's current Hearts, a trait shared by the Champion's Leathers. However, the maximum defense bonus has been lowered to 28 and the ability to reveal the numerical value for an enemy's exact hit points has been lost.
