The "Overture of Sages" being played by Link in front of Kaepora Gaebora

The "Overture of Sages" is a fake Ocarina song that was supposedly found in Ocarina of Time. It was first "found" by a person with the pseudonym of Adriana Almandoz, who revealed her story on the site Hyrule: The Land of Zelda and said that the "Overture of Sages" ultimately led to the Triforce. It is known to be one of the most infamous and elaborate Zelda-related hoaxes of all time.

According to Almandoz, Kaepora Gaebora teaches this song to young Link before he pulls out the Master Sword from the Pedestal of Time for the first time. She did not elaborate on how to obtain the song, however, and said that within a month's time, she would reveal the exact procedure to learn the melody.

According to an altered picture that Almandoz revealed on the 8th of February of 1999, the "Overture of Sages" is played as follows:

OoT C Up Ocarina Icon.png OoT C Down Ocarina Icon.png OoT A Ocarina Icon.png OoT C Right Ocarina Icon.png OoT C Left Ocarina Icon.png OoT C Up Ocarina Icon.png

This song supposedly warped young Link to the Temple of Light, the home of the Triforce. It was revealed as false when someone noticed that a picture provided with this information had one glaring error: Link's sword was sheathed on the wrong side (specifically, Link is left-handed, and the sword was sheathed on his back in the position a right-handed swordsman would use). On March 11, 1999, Almandoz emailed the webmaster of Hyrule: The Land of Zelda and confirmed the song to be a hoax, claiming that she put in the obvious error to show "how silly some people [can] be."[1]
