Community:Zelda Capital

Zelda Capital is an award-winning website^[1] that launched on May 22, 2006, by TheKingofHyrule. It started out as a small fan-website, but has now expanded into a library of Zelda information. Its most well known features are its extensive MIDI Library, consisting of over 350 MIDI song files, an MP3 player with over 800 MP3s to choose from, and Timeline information describing everything from the Triforce to the Great Cataclysms.

History

Zelda Capital held its grand opening on Monday, May 22nd, 2006. The very first layout was created by the webmaster with no web, HTML or PHP knowledge in an outdated version of Microsoft FrontPage, and only featured the site menu on the main page. The layout remained online for the site's whole first year. During this time, Zelda Capital got very few visitors, and had no interactive features such as a forum or gallery.

Zelda Capital version 2 made its debut on May 22nd, 2007, the day of the site's one year anniversary. The layout was created in Macromedia Dreamweaver, with the webmaster having more experience with web design. It was the first layout to use templates, which allowed the staff to update just one page to modify the entire site. It was around this time that the site started to get some hits and affiliates. Zelda Capital opened its first forum, which initiated some activity. However, the forums had to be closed due to some code errors. The forums were replaced, but many of the old members never returned.

By the third layout the site started to gain some recognition. The update was released on October 1st, 2007, and was Phantom Hourglass-themed in honor of the new game. The hit counter began to increase drastically and Zelda Capital's affiliates list soon filled up. This was the first site layout created with Photoshop, but it was taken down due to a coding error that caused the pages to display incorrectly in Mozilla Firefox, as well as all Mac browsers.

The fourth layout, released on February 2, 2008, is the most graphically-intense. Accompanying the new layout is a brand new forum layout that resembles the site layout, with a few minor image changes. This layout is the first layout to feature forum integration, and is the first to use transparent images. The layout remains in use at Zelda Capital today.
