Features and Overview

Breath of the Wild

Cotera's Great Fairy Fountain is located on top of the East Hill, which is located at the edge of Kakariko Village in West Necluda. As its name implies, it is home to the Great Fairy named Cotera. The Great Fairy Fountain is located in an unnamed forest, and it is surrounded by a shallow pool of Water.

10,000 years ago, the peaceful Sheikah founded Kakariko Village near Cotera's Great Fairy Fountain.[2][3] As a result, Cotera is considered a guardian Spirit of the Village, and its residents are wary of giving out the location of her Fountain.[4][5]

When Link first comes upon Cotera's Great Fairy Fountain, it will be withered into a bud. Cotera speaks to him from inside, begging that he listen to her story.[6] If Link agrees to listen, Cotera explains that since travelers have stopped visiting her Fountain and offering Rupees, her power has dwindled.[7] To restore her power, she needs Link to give her Rupees.[8] Depending on how many other Great Fairy Fountains have been activated, Cotera requests that Link pay either 100 Rupees,[9] 500 Rupees,[10] 1,000 Rupees,[11] or 10,000 Rupees.[12]

After Link gives the correct amount of Rupees to Cotera, her Great Fairy Fountain will bloom as her power is restored.[13] Following this, Cotera will be able to enhance Link's Armor when provided with the proper Materials.[14] The degree to which she can enhance his Armor depends on how many other Great Fairy Fountains have been opened.[15][16][17][18]

In search of Cotera's Great Fairy Fountain, Pikango has come to Kakariko Village.[19] During the "Find the Fairy Fountain" Main Quest, Pikango shares that he has a lead on the Fountain's location, and he asks Link if he would like to come with.[20] However, Pikango becomes too tired to finish the journey, so he requests that Link go ahead and take a Picture of Cotera's Great Fairy Fountain if he finds it.[21] If Link returns to Pikango with a Picture of the Fountain, he will be shocked, but he notes that it is not as sacred and elegant as he thought it would be.[22] As a reward, Pikango offers to guide Link to locations he has been unable to find.[23]
