Deep Water is a recurring Enemy and Object in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][name references needed] Deep Water goes unnamed in Cadence of Hyrule.

Characteristics

Ocarina of Time

Oracle of Seasons

In Oracle of Seasons, Deep Water appears in rivers and lakes, especially during Spring. It is a prominent feature of the Sunken City and certain Dungeons such as the Dancing Dragon Dungeon and Unicorn's Cave. Without the Zora's Flippers, Link will drown when touching Deep Water, taking damage and returning to land. Diving in Deep Water can reveal items or underwater caves.

Four Swords

Breath of the Wild

In Breath of the Wild, Deep Water appears as part of certain ponds, rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water. While Link doesn't require an item to swim in Deep Water, swimming drains the Stamina Wheel. If fully depleted, Link will drown, taking damage and being teleported to the most recently-touched section of dry land.[2]

Horses can swim in Deep Water and will automatically swim towards the nearest shoreline. If entering Deep Water while mounted, Link will automatically dismount and begin swimming.

Certain enemies, such as Bokoblins, Moblins, and most Octoroks drown when they touch Deep Water.[3] Others, such as Lizalfos and Water Octoroks, can swim or survive in such conditions.

Metallic items, Metal Chests, or other objects may be found in Deep Water, requiring Magnesis to remove.[4]

Tears of the Kingdom

Other Appearances

Cadence of Hyrule

An animated sprite of Deep Water.

Deep Water can be found throughout Hyrule, but is most common in Beaches and Lake Hylia. The heroes drown upon contact with it. In order to Swim safely through it, the heroes require the Zora's Flippers to Swim indefinitely[5] or the Snorkel to Dive with the Flippers and Swim through a single tile without them.[6] Deep Water can be frozen by the Ice Rod or by the attacks of Ice Wizzrobes.
