Features and Overview

Fishman's Commenthide ▲
Fishman says:

Oh, I've got some great information, small fry! Lucky you!

If you use the treasure that's hidden on that island there, the thing that vanishes as soon as you get near it... It won't vanish anymore! You know...IT! I'm talking about IT! That thing that appears on nights when a wee bit of the right half of the moon is missing!

Don't you know what I'm talking about?! IT!

Tingle's Commenthide ▲
Tingle says:

Diamond Steppe Island

Mr. Fairy! Do you believe in ghosts? Like the spooky Ghost Ship that sails at night? Me, I believe in fairies, but I don't believe in ghosts. Because they're scary.

On this diamond-shaped island, Link must use the Hookshot to reach the top of the Island and enter a maze with many Warp Pots. The reward there is the Ghost Ship Chart, which marks the appearances of the Ghost Ship on certain moon phases. After obtaining the Ghost Ship Chart, a glowing ship symbol will appear at night on the Sea Chart. Coincidentally, the Island itself is one of the seven recurring destinations of the Ghost Ship.

There is also one eight-eyed Big Octo which Link can destroy for 100 Rupees. In addition, beneath the waves is a Treasure Chest with a Heart Container that can be located after opening a Treasure Chart from Windfall Island.

Trivia

  • The layout of the Island's underground maze is similar to the grotto found on Needle Rock Isle.
  • At a certain angle, the island looks somewhat like a ship itself.
  • The Island's English name is likely a mistranslation of its Japanese name (see below), confusing the homophones steppe and step. The Japanese name for the island completely lacks the word for "steppe," 草原 sōgen, instead using the word 段 dan, which means "step" (as of stairs), which far better describes the island's geography.
