Following the Upheaval, the climate within Gerudo Canyon has shifted drastically. The sudden change in Weather inside caused Extreme Temperatures which led to Gerudo Canyon Stable closing down.[3] During the daytime, the Canyon becomes an Extremely Hot Zone and at night, a Freezing Climate envelops the region.[4] Many Caves have formed throughout the area, granting shelter against the extreme Temperatures outside to travelers and Monsters. A Waterfall now flows down from Taafei Hill into Mount Nabooru Cave, leaving the bend in the Canyon flooded.[5] The Water flowing down from the Gerudo Highlands wards off the extreme heat present during the day.[6]
If Link attempts to enter Gerudo Canyon from the Gerudo Canyon Pass, he will be interrupted by a Gerudo Soldier named Naia. Before granting him passage through the Canyon, she tests his knowledge of how to survive in the extreme Temperatures within through a quiz.[7] If he answers the four questions she poses correctly, she allows him to proceed into the Canyon freely.[8] She refuses to allow him to ride Horses or other Animals through it, commenting that it would be too dangerous for them.[9]
As part of "The Yiga Clan Exam" Side Quest, a Yiga Blademaster in the Station behind the Waterfall instructs a Disguised Link to find and offer Mighty Bananas to five Frog Statues hidden around Gerudo Canyon, both in Caves and on the Surface.[10]
