Green Rupee Likes are recurring Enemies in The Legend of Zelda series.[1] Green Rupee Likes go unnamed in Phantom Hourglass and A Link Between Worlds.

Characteristics

Four Swords

Rupee Likes made their debut in Four Swords. Green Rupee Likes at first appear as a regular Green Rupee, which is used to bait a Link into touching it. When this happens, it will pop up from the ground to reveal itself in an attempt to eat the Link that touched it. If the Rupee Like succeeds, it will eat that Link and start draining Rupees; Green Rupee Likes will only drain one Rupee at a time, but they still shouldn't be ignored. Because Rupees are shared by all Links, these enemies can be very irritating, especially if it's allowed to eat a lot of Rupees in one sitting, because Rupees are necessary to revive a Link that loses all of his Hearts.

The Minish Cap

Green Rupee Likes appear in caves and Dungeons in The Minish Cap. They are found in a Secret Cave in Minish Woods, and within the Cave of Flames and the Fortress of Winds. As with their appearance in Four Swords, they take the appearance of a single Green Rupee, only revealing their true forms when struck by one of Link's Items or when he tries to collect them. If Link is caught by one, his Rupees will drain away, one at a time. However, in Four Swords and The Minish Cap, a Rupee Like will not deal damage to Link when he is spat out. Upon defeat, Green Rupee Likes always drop a Green Rupee, unless Link has been eaten and the Rupee Like ate at least one of his Rupees; in this case, it will instead drop a Blue Rupee. This means that, if you're quick enough to escape from a Rupee Like before it eats at least five Rupees, you can gain more Rupees than those you've lost. This doesn't apply to just Green Rupee Likes; this can be done with any Rupee Like, and you'll gain a Rupee of the next value after defeating a Rupee Like (a Red Rupee from a Blue Rupee Like and a Big Green Rupee, worth 50 Rupees, from a Red Rupee Like).

Phantom Hourglass

Rupee Likes make another appearance in Phantom Hourglass. As with Four Swords and The Minish Cap, they appear as Green Rupees until Link draws near. Again, they will then try to eat him and steal his Rupees; in addition to simply touching Link in order to eat him, they can suck him into their mouths like a vacuum in this game. Rupee Likes and Like Likes are immune to being slashed by Link's Sword while they're vacuuming him in. As usual, they will steal one Rupee at a time when a Green Rupee succeeds in eating Link, and they will drop any undigested Rupees upon defeat. However, Rupee Likes in Phantom Hourglass are taller than in Four Swords and The Minish Cap, and if Link moves far enough away from one, it will move back to where its original hiding spot was, where it can ambush Link again. Also, when Link is spat out of a Rupee Like in this game, he will take a half heart of damage.

A Link Between Worlds

Rupee Likes' most recent appearance is in A Link Between Worlds. Once again, they use the Rupee on their stalk to lure Link and attempt to eat him, draining his Rupees. However, unlike all previous appearances, all Rupee Likes will steal a set amount of Rupees each time, which is ~20 Rupees. An easy way to tell a Rupee Like from a real Rupee is to look at the size of a Rupee's shadow; if the shadow is larger, then that's a Rupee Like. As with Phantom Hourglass, Link will take damage when he is spat out, but it will only deal a quarter heart of damage in this game, and the Rupee Like will hop away before he lands on the ground. In addition to eating Link, a Rupee Like can also hurt him simply by touching him; this happens when it isn't trying to eat him, and it deals half a heart of damage. This is the only game to have Purple Rupee Likes, which only appear in the Rupee Rush minigame in Lorule.
