Biography

Fi's Commenthide ▲
Fi says:

His name is Kortz. He is a member of a highly civilized race of moles called the Mogma. All Mogmas have a deep and abiding love of treasure.

Kortz is a brown-haired Mogma. He teaches Link about Bomb Flowers and that a Bomb Bag is needed to carry them.[2][3] Kortz is later seen searching for treasure at the Skyview Temple when Link returns to find Sacred Water.

If Link sits on the stool in one of the Bokoblin houses in the underground caves of Eldin Volcano, Kortz will humorously welcome Link to his new home while justifying why it is his new house. However, Kortz will admit that the house is not actually his and that he just wanted to know what it is like to welcome guests to a home.[4] If Link sits on the same stool for a second time, Kortz will warn Link to keep the house clean and not to "roll around", alluding to how if Link rolls into some of the house's structures on the walls, a Rupee may pop out. These structures can also be found by Dowsing for Rupees.

Nomenclature

Kortz's name is derived from the mineral quartz. His Japanese name, ロズ (Rozu), and Latin American Spanish name, Rosso, which is Italian for red, may refer to his reddish-brown hair. Rose quartz is also a rather common mineral with a pale red to pinkish hue, and his name in both Japanese and English may derive from this source.
