Biography

Breath of the Wild

Laine is a Gerudo Soldier who guards the Northwest Gate of Gerudo Town.[3] She stands at her post all day carrying a Gerudo Spear.

When Link tries to enter Gerudo Town without wearing the Gerudo Outfit, Laine will stop him from passing by.[4] While it is safe inside, she is unable to let a man enter due to Gerudo Town law.[5][6] Laine suggests that Link goes back to the Kara Kara Bazaar if he seeks shelter.[7]

Laine is impressed that Link approached Gerudo Town from the northwest, and she asks if he passed through the Sandstorm over the West Barrens.[8] If Link claims that he did, Laine will deny it and say that it is impossible.[9] If Link says he did not, Laine does not find that surprising.[10] She goes on to explain that a Gerudo Sandstorm has the "temperament of a raging stallion."[11] She goes on to explain that the ancients used these Sandstorm to their advantage and hid treasure in them.[12]

If Link approaches Laine while wearing the Gerudo Outfit, she warns him to avoid Sandstorm.[13] She explains that it is very easy for one to lose their sense of direction, and even Gerudo get lost in such circumstances.[14] She remarks that the Sandstorm have made the Gerudo Desert a perfect hiding place for bandits and treasures.[15]

When Link asks about the treasure, Laine admits that she does not know all the details.[16] However, she tells Link about the Swordswomen Statues, which are scattered across the Gerudo Desert.[17] She has heard rumors that they point to the hiding place of an ancient treasure, though Laine herself dismisses this as superstition.[18] Even if it was true, Laine considers the threat of the dangerous Monsters in the Sandstorm mean it is not worth the risk.[19] After Laine is finished speaking, Link receives "The Silent Swordswomen" Shrine Quest.

During the "Divine Beast Vah Naboris" Main Quest, Link is able to ask Laine about Karusa Valley.[20] She points him past the West Barrens, and she claims that even though he is unable to see it, Karusa Valley is in that direction.[21] Due to the length of the Valley, Laine suggests that he take a Sand Seal.[22]

After Link has calmed Divine Beast Vah Naboris, Laine will comment that the Sand-Seal Races will be starting up again.[23] She remarks that it has been too long since she has seen the Sand-Seal Racing champion, Tali, show her talent.[24] She considers going to the Sand-Seal Rally once she finishes her shift.[25]

If Link asks about the Sand-Seal Races, Laine tells him that he can find the Sand-Seal Rally by looking for a gate with red fabric past the other side of Gerudo Town.[26] Since it is located outside of Town, both men and women are able to participate.[27] Laine explains that the Sand-Seal Race is traditional Gerudo competition.[28]

Even with the Divine Beast gone, Laine warns Link that there are still Monsters and Sandstorm to be careful of.[29] Due to the danger, she reminds Link to tread lightly as he travels the Gerudo Desert.[30]
