Lynel Gear is a recurring set of Items in The Legend of Zelda series.[1]

Location and Uses

Breath of the Wild

Lynel Gear is a type of weaponry made and exclusively carried by Lynels. It consists of three tiers of increasing strength and quality. The first tier is found in the possession of regular Lynels, while the stronger Mighty Lynel Gear is used by Blue-Maned Lynels and the strongest tier, Savage Lynel Gear, is used by White-Maned Lynels, Silver Lynels and Golden Lynels. In Master Mode, Lynels carry Lynel Gear that is a tier below what they typically wield. As a whole, Lynel Gear is distinguished by its high strength and durability. As Lynel Weapons are typically large and composed of heavy stone and metal, many Hylians have difficulty using Lynel Gear as easily as a Lynel does.[2][3][4][5]

The Lynel Sword and its variations are sturdily built, and the most basic kinds rely on physical impact over their slicing edges for damage.[2] Higher-tier swords, however, possess keener edges enhanced by the presence of secondary blades branching off from the primary one, and they can cut foes in two with a passing blow.[6][7]

Lynel two-handed weapons consist of large metal clubs named Lynel Crushers.[8] They are used primarily through powerful downward blows, which can crush armored foes into the dust.[8][9] Lower-tier Lynel Crushers are little more than lumps of metal, but higher-quality Crushers are strengthened with more deliberately fashioned metal reinforcements, which additionally increase their weight and thus the power of their downward swing.[9][10] Savage Lynel Crushers in particular are fitted with a rare kind of metal obtained from the peak of Death Mountain.[10]

Lynel Spears are tipped with crescent-shaped blades designed for swinging blows, but the shape of their blades make them difficult to balance.[3] Higher-tier variants possess larger, axe-like blades, which greatly increase the weight of the weapon and consequently the force of its blows.[4][11] Lynels are known to be able to cleave through rocks with a single blow of these Spears.[4]

Lynel Bows are formed entirely from metal, as are their bowstrings.[5][12][13] Savage Lynel Bows, similarly to Savage Lynel Crushers, are made from a kind of steel obtained from the the peak of Death Mountain.[13] They fire multiple Arrows at once, making them well-suited to taking down swift foes, and they propel them with enough force to pierce conventional Armor.[12][13]

Lynel Shields possess blade-like cutting edges; higher-tier shields possess more such blades than lower-tier ones.[14][15] This trait allows them to deal increased damage to foes when parrying blows, although they are still intended primarily as defensive implements.[14][15][16]

As Lynel Gear is formed out of metal, all Weapons within this archetype sink in Water. They do not burn when exposed to Fire or a Scorching Climate, but they will attract Lightning during Thunderstorms and conduct Electricity. Finally, they and can be manipulated through use of the Magnesis Rune.
