Biography

Breath of the Wild

Mei is a Zora woman who resides in Zora's Domain. However, when Link first arrives in Zora's Domain, she will be absent. Her job is catching Fish, which she then sells at the Coral Reef.[3] Mei is the wife of Fronk and the mother of Tumbo and Keye.[1] Fronk describes Mei as lively and cheerful, a trait he believes she passed down to Tumbo.[4]

On the day Divine Beast Vah Ruta started its rampage, Mei left Zora's Domain to catch Fish in Zora River.[5][6] However, the Rain that the Divine Beast spouted caused the River to swell, leading Mei to be swept downstream.[7] Mei can be found on the islet to the west of Hylia Island in Lake Hylia, singing to herself as she swims.[8]

When Link speaks to Mei, she will greet him.[9][10][11] After this, she comments on the Weather at Lake Hylia.[12][13] If Link asks what she is doing, Mei explains that she is catching Fish to sell at the Coral Reef, the General Store in Zora's Domain.[14] Following this, Link can ask about Zora's Domain, and Mei explains that they are far away from it.[15] However, she is having fun catching the rare Fish in Lake Hylia.[16]

After the "Divine Beast Vah Ruta" Main Quest has been completed, Link will find Fronk worrying about Mei.[17] When Link asks him what is wrong, Fronk confesses that he is concerned for Mei, who has yet to return.[18] He recounts that Mei left to go fishing when Divine Beast Vah Ruta began rampaging.[5] He regrets allowing her to leave, fearing that something terrible could have happened to her.[19] When Link offers to search for Mei, Fronk will be grateful for his help.[20] After this, the "A Wife Washed Away" Side Quest will begin.

In Lake Hylia, Mei will be singing about how big her catch is.[21] When Link approaches her, she mentions she has caught a lot of Fish today.[22] Following this, Link asks Mei if she knows Fronk, to which she questions if something is wrong with him.[23] After a moment, Mei realizes that she has been away from Zora's Domain for too long, and she begins to cry and apologize to Fronk.[24] Determined to return home immediately, Mei gives Link the five Staminoka Basses that she has caught.[25] Once this has been done, she will leave Lake Hylia.[26] When she leaves, the Side Quest will be completed.

Upon returning to Zora's Domain, Mei can be found swimming in a pool of Water in the Sleeping Chamber. She recounts to Link that Fronk scolded her for being gone so long.[27] Due to this incident, Mei has been temporarily banned from leaving Zora's Domain, which she accepts as fair.[28] Despite being bored because of this, Mei is happy that Fronk is looking after Tumbo and Keye, so all she has to worry about is having fun.[29] While Mei wants to work, she has decided to let Fronk take care of their family, since she scared him last time she left.[30]
