Mount Granajh is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]

Features and Overview

Breath of the Wild

Mount Granajh is located at the southern end of the Gerudo Highlands. It contains two peaks, a main one at its center and a shorter one to the south known as Daval Peak. A wooden Ruined House can be found near the mountain's central peak, which contains a Campfire, three Barrels, and the Mountain Peak Log. Several shallow pools of Water and Fallen Guardians can be found on the mountain's southern foothills. Since Mount Granajh is situated within a Freezing Climate, Link will require at least two levels of Cold Resistance to traverse it without taking damage.

According to the Mountain Peak Log, an unnamed individual came to Mount Granajh after reading about an Ancient Shrine that could be found there.[3] However, they were unable to find the Shrine, and they were forced to leave after running out of rations.[4]

After reading the Mountain Peak Log, Link will receive the "Secret of the Snowy Peaks" Shrine Quest. The Log hints that one must cast a "cold shadow" onto the Pedestal located on the side of Daval Peak.[5] Using a nearby pool of Water, Link can cast the shadow from a Cryonis block onto the Pedestal. Alternatively, Link can hold up one of the Snowballs surrounding the Ruined House so that its shadow will touch the Pedestal. Using either method will cause Suma Sahma Shrine to emerge from the ground nearby.[6]

Five separate Korok Seed Puzzles can be found on Mount Granajh. The first is a Natural Hiding Spot, disguised as a Rock on a stone pillar at the mountain's central peak. The second is another Natural Hiding Spot west of the center peak. The third and fourth Puzzles are groups of Leaves with Fairy Dust, hidden within a blocks of Ice located to the south and southwest of Daval Peak. Lastly, a Rock Pattern can be found on the foothills south of Daval Peak. Whenever Link completes one of these Puzzles, a Korok will appear and give him a Korok Seed.[7]

In the years after the events in Breath of the Wild, all of the snow covering Mount Granajh melted, making the weather and terrain consistent with the rest of the Gerudo Desert region. The cabin where the Mountain Peak Log used to be has been dismantled, although the remnants of it foundation still remain.

A Hylian named Rahdo resides on the mountain top, where he goes to practice conditioning his body to the Gerudo region's extreme weather change. When Link speaks to Rahdo, he will challenge the hero to a game of weather endurance. Accepting the challenge will unlock the Cold-Endurance Contest side quest, requiring Link to endure the region's extreme cold from night until sunrise. If Link wins, he will be rewarded a Silver Rupee.

Passing the side quest will unlock the Heat-Endurance Contest side quest if Link speaks to Rahdo again. This side quest's conditions are similar to the last one, except Link must endure the region's extreme heat from morning to sundown. If Link wins, he will be rewarded with a Gold Rupee.

In both cases, Link cannot leave the area or wear any clothing; otherwise the match will be forfeit. However, Link can use elemental-fused weapons to protect himself. He can also use flint and wood for warmth in the first contest, or eat weather-resistant foods to boost his immunity in both contests.

I come to this snowy mountain intending to find the ancient shrine that was written about in an old text. "The shrine slumbers near the pedestal on a snowy Gerudo peak." I believe I've arrived at the pedestal mentioned in the text.

I can feel that I'm a hair's breadth away from unlocking the secrets hidden within the pedestal. I'm certain that "casting" and "cold" refer to using a specific type of shadow. But I've run out of food entirely, and I doubt now that I ever had the tools to do the job...whatever they might be.

It's been seven days since I arrived at the pedestal mentioned in the ancient texts. Unfortunately, I'm eating through my food provisions more quickly than I anticipated. On a brighter note, I've found an explanation in the source text that may be the key to this riddle. "When the snow mountain pedestal glows, cast a cold shadow onto its core." I noticed a faint glow to the pedestal for a short while each day. But how to "cast a cold shadow onto its core"...? It seems that this calls for further research here.
