The Rota Ooh Shrine,[1] designated by the Trial name Passing of the Gates,[1] is an Ancient Shrine in Breath of the Wild.

Entrance to the Shrine

Rota Ooh Shrine is located on a hill to the west of Outskirt Stable in Hyrule Field. As Link enters the Ancient Shrine, he is greeted by its Monk, Rota Ooh.[2]

Themes and Navigation

The Shrine features a barred wall that is rotated by a Crystal when hit. When the Crystal is hit, the wall rotates upward and returns to its original position when the Crystal is hit again. The wall also has a door that barricades the other half of the Shrine.

Link can reach the other side by navigating through a waterhole and using the Cryonis Rune, where an Ancient Orb and a Concave Slot behind a cell can be found. On the wall is a rectangular basket that will empty any contents to the other side when rotated. Link can use the basket and Crystal in conjunction to transport the Ancient Orb to the Concave Slot. Doing so activates a Launch Pad that can be used to send Link into the air.

Rotating the wall also lets Link access to a narrow corridor to the left, where a stone Treasure Chest containing a Small Key can be found. Aside from letting Link reach the other side of the wall, opening the door also allows Link be sent through it with the Launch Pad.

Upon unlocking the door and activating the Concave Slot, Link can then propel himself upward over the top of the wall. However, Link is incapable of reaching Rota Ooh's Monk's Pedestal while the wall is rotated, requiring the wall's position to be reset before landing atop it.

When Link reaches the Monk, Rota Ooh will give him a Spirit Orb for completing the Trial.[3] Afterwards, Rota Ooh will wish Link well before fading away.[4]

A metallic Treasure Chest containing a Feathered Edge can be found atop a ledge at the back of the Shrine.
