The Spring of Courage is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3]

Features and Overview

Breath of the Wild

The Spring of Courage is an Ancient Hylian Ruin located at the northernmost part of the Zonai Ruins, which are hidden within the Faron Woods in the Faron Grasslands.[4] It is surrounded by a giant Dragon statue, the mouth of which serves as the entrance to the Spring. A large Tree grows from the head of this statue. Inside is a large Goddess Statue known as the Spring of Courage Statue, which is surrounded by a low level of Water. When Link approaches the Statue, he will be able to exchange Spirit Orbs for Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels.[5] The Dragon, Farosh, has served the Spring since ancient times.[6][7]

Prior to the second Great Calamity, Zelda frequented the Spring of Courage in an attempt to unlock her sealing powers.[8][9]

In the Pagos Woods, Link can find Kass playing his bandoneon along the Faron Highroad.[10] When Link approaches him, he offers to play an "Ancient Song,"[11] which describes finding an Ancient Shrine where a forest Dragon can be found.[12] Listening to this starts "The Serpent's Jaws" Shrine Quest. When Link first arrives at the Spring of Courage, Hylia will speak to him through the Spring of Courage Statue, instructing him to offer Farosh's Scale to the Spring.[13] If he does so, the doorway behind the Statue will open, allowing him access to Shae Katha Shrine.[14][15]

During the "EX Treasure: Merchant Hood" Side Quest, which is exclusive to The Champions' Ballad DLC Pack, Link will learn from Misko's EX Journal 2 that they hid Ravio's Hood on the right hand of the Dragon statue surrounding the Spring of Courage.[16] At this location, Link will find a metallic EX Treasure Chest, inside of which is Ravio's Hood.[17]

One additional Treasure Chest can be found at the Spring of Courage. At the entrance to the Spring, there is a metallic Chest that contains a Gold Rupee.

In total, two Korok Seed Puzzles are located at the Spring of Courage. The first is a Cube Pattern on the Dragon statue's right hand, which must be solved by matching it to the Pattern on its left hand. The second Puzzle is a Rock on top of the large Tree, and Link can pick it up to reveal that it is a Natural Hiding Spot. Once each of these Puzzles have been solved, a Korok will appear and give him a Korok Seed.[18]

Trivia

  • The Spring of Courage bears a strong resemblance to the Skyview Spring in Skyward Sword. Like the Skyview Spring, the Spring of Courage is located in the Faron Woods, and it bears similarly weathered structures.

Nomenclature

The Spring of Courage is named after the Triforce of Courage.[19]
