"The Battle of Hyrule Field" is a Scenario in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.[1] It is the first Scenario of Chapter 1 set in Hyrule Field.

Overview

Win condition Repel the monsters attacking Hyrule Field
Lose condition Link flees

"The Battle of Hyrule Field" begins after King Rhoam delivers a speech to inspire the Hyrulean Army in anticipation of a battle with an unprecedented horde of monsters that is approaching Hyrule Field.[2] As a common soldier, Link takes part in the defense of Hyrule Field, stationed at the Sacred Ground to repel the Bokoblins acting as infantry while the nearby Hylian Captain readies their Cannons.[3]

Objective Defeat the Moblin

After two minutes of fighting, troops of Moblins accompanied by Bokoblins will enter through the gate to the south in time for it to close as the Hylian Captain commands the Cannons to fire upon them.[note 1][4] In response, a Moblin will open the Outpost to the northwest and begin attacking the Hyrulean Army from the flank, providing the first Objective with the goal of its defeat.[5]

Objective Capture the Outposts

When the Moblin is defeated, King Rhoam expresses his surprise that a single person managed to slay one.[6] With the opportunity for a counteroffensive open, the Hylian Captain instructs the Hyrulean Army to recapture the Outposts, highlighting three key Outposts to the west, east, and south. The Hylian Captain reports that Zelda's attendant, Impa, has been spotted and requests permission to escort her.[7] King Rhoam denies this request, believing her to be capable of navigating the battlefield without aid.[8]

If the Outpost to the west is captured or if Link approaches the plaza to its south, he will find the Diminutive Guardian sitting dormant against a rock. While he inspects the Guardian, he is interrupted by Impa fleeing from a pack of Bokoblins while carrying the Sheikah Slate. She spots Link and calls to him for help only to trip and lose her grip on the Sheikah Slate,[9] which activates midair and awakens the Diminutive Guardian. Link catches the Sheikah Slate and the ground begins to shake as a Sheikah Tower emerges from the ground of the plaza where they met.[10][11]

Despite her shock from the sudden appearance of the Central Tower, Impa thanks Link for his aid and instructs him to fight through the groups of Bokoblins ahead of them.[12] While they are fighting, Impa notices that the Sheikah Slate in Link's possession activated and can now use the Remote Bomb and Cryonis Sheikah Runes.[13]

Once Link resumes his task of capturing the key Outposts, Impa will take position southeast of the Sacred Ground. King Rhoam issues an order for soldiers to investigate the site of the Central Tower and its sudden appearance,[14] though none arrive during the course of the Battle.

After Link captures one of the other mandatory Outposts or the Lizalfos-infested Outpost in the central southeast of the Stage, a Fire Wizzrobe appears to the east of Impa's stationed position.[note 2][15] Impa tasks herself with the responsibility of repelling it,[16] thus allowing for her to be controlled.[17] If the Fire Wizzrobe is slain, it will drop a Fire Rod,[18] which can be used to incinerate enemies in a given area.[19]

Objective Defeat the Moblins

Impa declares that the tide of battle has shifted in favor of the Hyrulean Army as more of the opposing Outposts fall.[20] However, once all three mandatory Outposts have been captured, the Hylian Captain brings a report of multiple Moblins appearing to the southeast that will threaten the progress they made in the Battle.[21][22] Additionally, a Fire Wizzrobe will also appear and cross the Owlan Bridge to attack the Hyrulean Army to the west.

The Battle is won once all three Moblins have been defeated.[23][24] After watching Link's contributions to the Battle, King Rhoam muses that he should appoint Link with an official title in recognition of his prowess.[25]

Link and Impa return to the Central Tower with the Diminutive Guardian, where she inspects them both. She concludes that they will require help from the researchers Purah and Robbie to discern the nature of both the appearance of the Guardian and the Tower.[26] In the moment of calm following the Battle, the Diminutive Guardian takes notice of Hyrule Castle in the distance and runs toward it, prompting the duo to follow suit.[27]

King Rhoam congratulates a contingent of the Hyrulean Army inside the Hyrule Castle Courtyard for their bravery as the three arrive.[28] Zelda greets Impa at the Second Gatehouse nearby and Impa reports the successful delivery of the Sheikah Slate.[29][30]

Before she can share Purah's findings regarding the Sheikah Slate, the Diminutive Guardian interrupts Impa by frantically attempting to communicate with Zelda through whistling.[31] It activates the Sheikah Slate and displays imagery of the Great Calamity and the impending destruction of Hyrule.[32][33] With approval from King Rhoam, Impa makes plans to recruit Purah & Robbie to study both anomalies.[33] King Rhoam charges Link with the responsibility of guarding the newly-emerged Central Tower and working with the two researchers to discern whether the Diminutive Guardian's warning can be trusted.[34] Impa, Link, and Zelda then make for the Road to the Ancient Lab.

  1. It is possible to delay the appearance of this Powerful Foe by capturing the eastern and southern Outposts in any order before the Sheikah Tower is raised as a result of either capturing the western Outpost or approaching the site of the Tower. This causes the Fire Wizzrobe to appear after the "Defeat the Moblins" Objective when the final, western Outpost is captured. The Fire Wizzrobe will also spawn if the optional east-central Outpost that is occupied by Lizalfos is captured after the Sheikah Tower appears but before all three of the mandatory Outposts are captured.
