White Horses are a special breed of Horses that possess pure-white coats with no mottling.[6] They were ridden by the Royal Family of Hyrule prior to the second Great Calamity to demonstrate their divine right.[7]

At least two White Horses are known to exist in Breath of the Wild. The first White Horse was owned by Zelda before to the second Great Calamity. In addition to the Royal Horse Gear, which consists of the Royal Bridle and Royal Saddle, Zelda's original White Horse had a French-Braided Mane. During the "Champion Revali's Song" EX Recovered Memory, Zelda can be seen riding her White Horse to the Flight Range. Next, her White Horse is seen in the "Zelda's Resentment" Recovered Memory, where Zelda is shown to have ridden him to Tena Ko'sah Shrine at the Ancient Columns.

In the "To Mount Lanayru" Recovered Memory, Zelda mentions that Link counseled her on how to soothe her Horse.[8] Heeding his advice, Zelda equipped her White Horse with the Royal Horse Gear.[1] Together, she and Link ride their Horses to Sanidin Park. While Zelda was visiting the Park, Toffa's grandfather saw her atop her White Horse, which is a moment he remembered as indescribably beautiful.[9] Following the Great Calamity, Toffa's grandfather came into possession of the Royal Bridle and Royal Saddle, which he passed on to his grandson alongside tales of the White Horse.[5]

The second White Horse is speculated to be a grandchild of the one owned by Zelda.[7][9] Following Link's Slumber of Restoration, a traveler spotted the White Horse isolated atop Safula Hill, and word of it eventually reached Toffa at the Outskirt Stable.[5] Wishing to see the White Horse for himself, Toffa asks Link to tame the Horse and return to him after registering it at a Stable,[5] beginning "The Royal White Stallion" Side Quest. If Link tames the White Horse and speaks to Toffa before registering it, Toffa will prompt him to register it and return immediately.[10][11]

Upon successfully showing Toffa the White Horse after registering it, he will give Link the Royal Horse Gear as a reward.[12] The Royal Bridle and Royal Saddle are immediately equipped to the White Horse, regardless of Link's Bond with it. This completes the Side Quest. After completing the Quest, Toffa will inform Link of his fantasy of riding the White Horse with a woman like Zelda.[13]

If the White Horse perishes before Link can register it at a Stable, it will reappear on Safula Hill the following day. Once registered, the White Horse will no longer reappear on Safula Hill unless it is released. If it is killed, it can only be brought back by Malanya at his Spring.

During the special cutscene that plays after Link completes both the "Captured Memories" and "Destroy Ganon" Main Quests, Zelda has a White Horse with her. She makes plans to ride her White Horse to Zora's Domain to investigate the source of Divine Beast Vah Ruta's malfunction, in addition to bringing closure to King Dorephan over his late daughter, Mipha.[14]

According to Baddek, girls often talk dreamily about princes on White Horses, though he would prefer to have the White Horse.[15]

Tears of the Kingdom

The White Horse can be found among a herd of other Horses in the Akkala Wilds north of Skull Lake. Alternatively, if Link had the White Horse registered in Breath of the Wild, its save data will be carried over to Tears of the Kingdom.
