Biography

Breath of the Wild

Yunobo is a young Goron who lives in Goron City in the Eldin Canyon. He is a descendant of the Champion Daruk, and as a result, he is able to make use of Daruk's Protection.[14] He can also be observed wearing Daruk's ceremonial cloth around his shoulders. Despite being an adult, Yunobo remains immature in many ways, such as his lingering fear of Monsters.[7] He is also known to have an earnest nature, which has led to him becoming naive and gullible.[7]

When Divine Beast Vah Rudania reactivated on Death Mountain, Yunobo became Bludo's assistant.[15] Whenever the Divine Beast got too close to crossing Death Caldera, Bludo would launch him towards it with his Cannons, with Yunobo using Daruk's protection to keep himself safe.[16] Oftentimes, Yunobo was spotted by the Divine Beast's Sentries, though Bludo was capable of deflecting the resulting Magma Bombs.[17] However, despite their repeated efforts, Vah Rudania would always return.[18]

Prior to Link's arrival in Goron City, Yunobo left for the Abandoned North Mine to retrieve painkillers for Bludo's back, but he has yet to complete his trip.[19] At the start of the "Divine Beast Vah Rudania" Main Quest, Bludo asks Link to send Yunobo back to him should they encounter one another.[20] When Link arrives at the Abandoned North Mine, he will find Yunobo trapped and shouting for help from inside the Vault.[21][22] Using the Cannon, Link is able to destroy the rocks blocking the Vault's entrance, thereby freeing Yunobo.

Yunobo's introduction

When Link approaches Yunobo, he will be cowering at the back of the Vault and muttering to himself about what he should do.[23] He then turns around and, fearing that Link is a Monster, begins to panic.[24] After getting to look at Link, however, he realizes that he is actually a Hylian and calms down.[25] He asks Link if he was the one who rescued him and expresses his gratitude for doing so, though he wonders why he is at the Abandoned North Mine in the first place.[26] Once Link reveals that he was looking for him, Yunobo will introduce himself.[27] He explains that while he was fetching Bludo's painkillers, a Magma Bomb caused a rock slide, causing him to become trapped.[28] Yunobo asks Link how he managed to break apart the rock slide,[29] though he is shocked to hear that he was able to use one of Bludo's Cannons all on his own.[30] He remembers that he needs to deliver the painkillers, so he tells Link to see Bludo for a reward.[31] Yunobo then rolls out of the Vault, leaving Link behind.

When Yunobo delivers the painkillers to Bludo, he tells him about how Link rescued him from the Vault.[32] After Bludo's back pain flares up again, he asks Link to find Yunobo at the Bridge of Eldin and inform him that their plans to face Divine Beast Vah Rudania are cancelled.[33] At the Bridge, Link finds Yunobo under attack by a pair of Black Moblins, using Daruk's Protection to keep himself safe.[34] Once Link defeats the Black Moblins, Yunobo will drop his Protection and commend his strength.[35]

Yunobo thanks Link for saving him yet again, though he still wonders where Bludo is.[36] When Link informs him that Bludo is unable to come, Yunobo will initially be shocked,[37] but he is then frustrated when he hears that the painkillers ended up not working.[38] Without Bludo, Yunobo decides to return to Goron City.[39] However, he is stopped by Link, much to his confusion.[40]

Upon hearing that Link wants to board Divine Beast Vah Rudania, Yunobo compares his recklessness to Daruk.[41] While he admits it would be possible by weaking the Divine Beast first, he still wants to know why Link would do something so risky.[42] After listening to Link's explanation, Yunobo admits that he does not understand his reasoning.[43] He reveals that, with the Bridge of Eldin raised, they will be unable to reach Death Mountain.[44] Suddenly, Yunobo remembers that Link is able to use Bludo's Cannons, so he suggests that Link use the one nearby to shoot him at the Bridge.[45] When Link expresses concern, Yunobo says that Daruk's Protection will keep him safe.[46]

Following this, Link can shoot Yunobo at the Bridge of Eldin, causing it to fall down. He is notably dizzy afterwards, but he assures Link that he is safe.[47] He then invites Link to cross the Bridge with him.[48] If Link speaks to Yunobo during this time, he will admit that he is nervous.[49] Once they reach the other side of the Bridge, their presence is detected by Divine Beast Vah Rudania, which deploys Sentries in response. Yunobo explains that if they are spotted by the Sentries, Vah Rudania will cause an eruption of Magma Bombs from Death Mountain.[17] Yunobo devises a plan to sneak by them by having Link signal to him whenever he should stop or go.[50] They decide that the signal should be a whistle, though Yunobo takes issue with their method being similar to Calling a Horse.[51]

As Link and Yunobo ascend Death Mountain, they will have to shoot Divine Beast Vah Rudania three separate times. After the first and seconds shots, Yunobo will encourage Link to keep moving forward, despite his dizziness.[52][53] Once they drive the Divine Beast into the crater, Yunobo commends Link for besting it.[54] Though Yunobo initially intends to enter Vah Rudania alongside Link,[55] he becomes scared after Link jumps towards it, instead remaining on the cliff above.

If Link exits Divine Beast Vah Rudania before activating its Main Control Unit, Yunobo will be confused to see him back on the cliff.[56] He is concerned about the Divine Beast still being active, he claims that he would be injured if he jumped down to it from there.[57] After Link returns control of Vah Rudania to Daruk, he pilots up to the top of Death Mountain. While overlooking Goron City, Daruk and Yunobo spot each other, causing the former to remark that the Gorons are doing well.[58] Daruk raises his fist in solidarity with Yunobo, who begins waving and cheering at him.

The next time Link returns to Goron City, he will find Yunobo waiting for him near the entrance.[59] He thanks Link for calming the Divine Beast, though he is unsure how exactly he did so.[60] He admits that he thought he saw Daruk standing on top of Divine Beast Vah Rudania, and he claims that the encounter has left him feeling braver.[61] Yunobo then remembers that Bludo asked him to fetch Link for him [62] Following this, he rolls off towards the Boss's House.

After the "Divine Beast Vah Rudania" Main Quest has been completed, Yunobo will begin a daily routine throughout Goron City. During the day, he stands on the bridge on top of the City's gate, which he refers to as his "secret hideout".[63] At night, he sleeps in his House, which is located next door to the Boss's House. While asleep, he snores loudly.[64][65][66][67] When Link speaks to Yunobo while he is moving between these two locations, he confesses that he feels more relaxed now that the Divine Beast has been calmed.[68]

While Yunobo is standing on the bridge at Goron City's entrance, Link is able to ask him questions. If Link is unable to come up with a question, Yunobo reasons that Link now knows he is owed a level of respect.[69] He also resolves to continue honoring Daruk's legacy.[70] Should Link ask about Divine Beast Vah Rudania, Yunobo claims it has not moved, and he is still shocked that he and Link were able to face it.[71] Lastly, Link can ask about Daruk's Protection, Yunobo admits that he has felt Daruk with him as of late, and he now knows he has no need of fear so long as he has the Protection.[72]

After starting the "EX Champion Daruk's Song" Main Quest, which is exclusive to The Champions' Ballad Downloadable Content Pack, Link is able to ask two more questions to Yunobo. If Link asks about Daruk, Yunobo reveals that he found Daruk's Training Journal, which describes both his love for delicious rocks and a good friend of his.[73] He admits that since he does not have much of an appetite, he is considered to be scrawny for a Goron.[74] When Link inquires about the Journal, Yunobo claims to have found it while cleaning in the Abandoned North Mine, and it is now in his House.[75] Alternatively, if Link asks where Bludo is, Yunobo gives him directions to the Boss's House.[76] He expresses his hope for Bludo to tell him more about his ancestors.[77]

Tears of the Kingdom

Yunobo is the President of YunoboCo, a company responsible for mining efforts throughout the Eldin Region. Like his ancestor Daruk, Yunobo now wields a Boulder Breaker that he fights with. He is also in possession of a Power of Fire, which is capable of destroying Hard Sediments.[78] He keeps a diary, which is known as Yunobo's Diary.

After Divine Beast Vah Rudania was calmed, the Lava throughout the Eldin Canyon cooled.[79] The disappearance of the Scorching Climate caused disagreements and illness amongst the Gorons, and Yunobo was concerned that Goron City would fall apart.[80] Since new sources of Ore were now accessible, Yunobo decided to begin digging.[81] He was joined by several other Gorons, most notably Slergo and Offrak, and so he founded YunoboCo to help revitalize Goron City.[82][83] Through his company, Yunobo created the new Mountain Road to encourage tourism to Goron City, hoping the visitors would purchase the ore that they mined at a reduced price.[84]

When the Upheaval began, Yunobo planned to leave for Lookout Landing after hearing that Zelda and Link had gone missing.[85] However, he was concerned by the Gloom emenating from Death Mountain, and he wanted to investigate it and ensure Goron City was safe before doing so.[86][87] At Death Mountain Summit, he met a Phantom Ganon disguised as Zelda, who gave him the Weird Mask.[88] Through this, Yunobo was controlled by the Phantom, and he began distributing Marbled Rock Roast through YunoboCo and mind-controlling the adult Gorons.[89] Yunobo and the Phantom Ganon would regularly meet up to harvest Marbled Rock Roasts from Gloom Rocks together.[90] At one point, she also warned him to stay away from the Lizard Lakes.[91]

When the Gorons' addiction to Marbled Rock Roast begins to threaten Goron City, Yunobo dismisses the problem and insists that everything is fine. After he is freed from the control of his Mask by Link, Moragia rises from Death Mountain and Yunobo joins Link to find "Zelda" and stop the spread of Marbled Rock Roast plaguing the Eldin Region.

After Link and Yunobo defeat Marbled Gohma at the Fire Temple, Yunobo awakens as the new Sage of Fire.

Other Appearances

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

In the Water and Fire Scenario, Yunobo comes from the future, where Breath of the Wild takes place and uses Daruk's Protection and saves the struggling Daruk from being defeated by Fireblight Ganon with its flaming rock at the last minute, much to Daruk's surprise to see another Goron have the same power as him.[92] Yunobo attempts to explain himself before blocking Fireblight's attack again and assuring him that he's there for him.[93] As Fireblight starts gaining power over them once more, Yunobo starts trembling before Daruk returns the favor and tells him to quell his fear[94] which Yunobo remembered why he came here,[95] which Daruk praises him.[96] Yunobo's support to Daruk had brought enough time for Link to get to Divine Beast Vah Rudania to defeat Fireblight Ganon.[97] After the battle, Daruk takes the time to thank Link for coming to his aid,[98] and Yunobo for saving his life.[99] Sidon then explains that he came from the future,[100] though Daruk laughs it off[101] before sobering up and asks Princess Zelda about the events at Hyrule Castle.[102] After that, Daruk takes Yunobo on Rudania to help defend eastern Hyrule from the Guardians. Yunobo gushes at Daruk's prowess and addressed him as the Great Daruk[103] and a miffed Daruk tells Yunobo to stop it.[104] Yunobo sheepishly admits that he won't promise anything about that[105] and Daruk laughs once more before turning his focus on the mission.[106] Yunobo and Daruk work together with Rudania to defend the Allied Stronghold, take out bridges to prevent reinforcements of corrupted Guardians from crossing over, and destroying the enemy headquarters.

In the Guardian of Remembrance DLC, EX Battle for Kakariko Village Scenario, Yunobo joins Daruk in protecting Kakariko Village from Calamity Ganon's monsters as well as the Yiga Clan Footsoldiers led by Sooga. When it was over, a crowd of Sheikah villagers cheer for their victory. Yunobo caught Daruk glancing at him and starts to panic, refusing to take credit for the accomplishment.[107] to Daruk's concern.[108] Yunobo goes on to explain that he used to be a coward who was scared of everything until he met a friend who fought with him and taught him to be braver, and despite this, Yunobo still isn't proud of the Goron he used to be,[109] until Daruk took his arm and raised it and the crowd cheers for them once more. Daruk expresses pride in Yunobo being his descendant and calls him the Champion of the Future,[110] Yunobo doesn't know what to say,[111] though Daruk tells him that he also owes that friend his gratitude for helping him get this far in his development.[112] Yunobo feels better about it.[113]

In the Relentless as a Waterfall Scenario, Yunobo and Daruk help Sidon and Mipha when Vah Ruta is starting to lose steam and Mipha is busy healing the wounds of the soldiers. With Yunobo and Daruk's help, the party managed to hold back the line of foes until they were able to fire the cannons to destroy the bridge just as the Malice Guardians cross it, making them fall and they managed to destroy them.

In the All Hyrule United Scenario, Purah managed to get the Sheikah Towers working once more and supercharged it to assemble the soldiers of all races, the Champions, their Divine Beasts, and the recently reformed Yiga Clan. Daruk is ready to take the battle to Ganon[114] and a more confident Yunobo agreeing strongly[115] With her surviving father's blessing, Princess Zelda takes command of the united army and gives a speech before charging into the outposts and taking down monsters that hold up Ganon's barrier so the Champions can open fire. Despite the power of the Blood Moon reviving the monsters and holding back the Hyrulean Army, they managed to push through to Hyrule Castle.

In The Future of Hyrule Scenario, Yunobo follows Princess Zelda and the ground forces as they arrive at Hyrule Castle to take the fight to Astor and Harbinger Ganon. Despite putting up much of a fight, Astor and Harbinger were defeated and the former loses all composure and orders the latter to destroy the warriors, but he is consumed by Ganon's Malice and some of it attaches to Terrako, who unwillingly attacks Link and the princess. After it was serioously damaged, Yunobo and the other warriors share a moment of silence as an angry Princess Zelda vowed to bring Calamity Ganon down as they make their way to the sanctum where the monster awaited them. However, Ganon proved to be too strong for them and was immune to all attacks as a result of its successful reincarnation, so Zelda tries desperately to seal it. Her power brings Terrako back up and it rushes upstairs to sacrifice itself to penetrate Ganon's invincibility and the heroes can now hurt and eventually defeat it. Link uses the Master Sword to critically weaken it and Zelda using her power to destroy Ganon once and for all. As they have a moment to enjoy Hyrule's now peaceful state, Terrako's blessed screw used the last of its power to send Yunobo, Sidon, Teba, and Riju back to the future. Daruk and Yunobo exchange good-byes with Daruk promising to cherish the short time they had together[116] Despite his earlier timidy, Yunobo admits that it was so much fun and tell Daruk that he is the best[117] before he and the future warriors return to their future with Princess Zelda wishing them well.

In the secret DLC ending, Yunobo and Daruk are sitting on a high cliff, enjoying the view and eating their Rock Roasts. Later, he interacts with the other Champions, present and future as Terrako also interacts with and amuses them.
