Ascend

From Zelda Wiki, the Zelda encyclopedia

Ascend is an ability in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Overview

Ascend is an Ancient Power that Link can use while underneath terrain or buildings so long as the targeted surfaces of both where Link enters and exit are relatively flat, he is close enough to the surface where he enters, and nothing would obstruct him on the other side, this is indicated via the portal turning green. When Link uses the ability, he will rise upward through the material above him and appear on the other side. During the Ascend sequence, everything else will freeze. This can be used to quickly gain altitude or escape from dangerous situations. Climbable Bosses, such as Stone Taluses and Marbled Gohmas, can also be Ascended through. In the Depths, Tooreroof Ruins can be found, which will take Link to the Surface when he Ascends through them. Link can also ascend to the surface from the alcove in the Deku Tree Chasm. Link cannot Ascend anywhere else in the Depths to the Surface.

Link will have an opportunity to confirm if he wishes to Ascend through an Object after seeing what is on the other side of the selected Object, allowing him to abort a potentially risky move if needed. However, after 30 seconds he will automatically complete the ascent.

If the camera becomes obstructed while it follows Link as he Ascends, the world around him will render as a green void, similar to being inside of a Shrine of Light. This will also happen if the game needs to load where Link will appear.
