Categorization

Ah, when done recategorizing everything, do I leave the old category link or not?

What constitutes which articles should be marked as "Category:Places" in addition to (or without) the "Category:Places in The Legend of Zelda: Such-and-so"? If location appears exclusively in ALttP, and it's currently marked as "Category:Places", should that be changed to "Category: Places in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past"? Some dungeon articles are listed as Places (Lakebed Temple) while others are not (City in the Sky); so are they both places and dungeons, or just dungeons? Sorry if this has been asked somewhere else, but I haven't found any detailed discussion relevant to it. I'd rather not re-categorize anything if I'm just going to end up screwing things up (again). --Guy ^(T|C) 17:40, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Regardless of game-specific categorization, every place should always be categorized here. Otherwise, this category becomes incomplete. City in the Sky is still a place, even if it is one which appears only in TP. Otherwise, we are forcing wiki users to browse game-specific subcategories only, even if they don't know what game they want to use. The game specific categories should be used as a way to give extra information, not to siphon stuff out of this category. I always figured it was the other way around with Places and Game-Specific places, as that seems to be the more common way articles do it, so I'm glad that's cleared up. Dungeons are to be categorized as both dungeons and places, and places are always to include both "Places" and "Places in The Legend of Zelda: ...". Places from The Adventure of Link

May I suggest someone else who owns Zelda II (as well as myself, seeing as I just started a playthrough) play through the game and get info on the places introduced in the game- such as the Parapa Desert and Three Eye Rock- so that we can get articles up on them? Subcategories

Can anyone see why the game-specific place categories such as Category:Places Twilight Princess are categorised as Places, but aren't shown as a subcategory here? --Adam ^(talk) 01:02, 15 January 2008 (EST)

Placement?

I've been systematically editing all the Places pages to include the respective "Places in <insert game>" category, and something's really been bothering me. The standard is obviously Category:Places, then Category: Places in <game>, but do/should categories like Islands/Forests/Countries/Minigames/whatever come before or after Places? It seems negligible, but I figure as long as I'm going through every place page, I might as well standardize them... --Douken 18:57, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

I browsed through most of them, and apparently Places, OtherAreas, PlacesinGame are the most common, so I made most of them like that. --Douken

New Subcategories

There's categories for Forests and Islands. Would anyone object to adding Category:Mini-Dungeons (as they seem to be most commonly called), Category:Twilight Princess Provinces (or just Provinces), Category:Structures (or Buildings), Category:Coasts (Beaches), Category:Deserts, Category:Fields, Category:Lakes, Category:Swamps, and/or Category:Mountains), or adding other additional categories? Of course, I'll be more than willing to add all the categories, and fully categorize all articles in Category:Places. --Douken 19:36, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

...I just axed Structures and changed Lakes to Reservoirs. In retrospect, Category:Ruins probably would have been useful. --Douken

Ummm

This isn't really a dicussion topic more of a point something out. Magic Armor is listed among the places. I tried to see if I could remove that link but couldn't. Can one of the higher ups do something about this? --Heroostuff 18:46, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

The other admins and I discussed this, and none of us have seen Magic Armor in the list of locations, so perhaps this was on a different page?— Steve 01:38, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Fixed, it was an automatic categorization concealed in a jumble of code in the item template. Thanks for pointing that out. You'll see a list of templates used on pages when you open them to be edited. That's where the problem was. I know who did it, but I forgive myself :P Axiomist (talk) 01:58, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
