Fairy Fountain is a recurring song in The Legend of Zelda series.[name references needed]

Overview

The Fairy Fountain theme first appeared in A Link to the Past, played on the file selection screen and inside Fairy Fountains. Since then, the song has appeared in every installment of the series, with the exception of Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, and Oracle of Ages. The theme is inspired by the map theme for World 3, Water Land, from Super Mario Bros 3.[1]

Other Appearances

A remix of the song is used as part of the Zelda-themed music in Donkey Konga.[2]

Musical Elements

This theme is ethereal, with soft, repetitive harmonies. The piece is composed of two main elements: a staccato melody that winds slowly up and down both diatonically and chromatically (due to voice-leading), and a fuller harmony that shifts down a diatonic step after every note of the melody where every eight bars the harmony progression returns back from the top. The form of the theme is simple, being a repeating loop of 'A to A' over and over where 'A' could be seen as the antecedent and 'A' could be seen as the consequent.
