The Ja Baij Shrine,[1] designated by the Trial name Bomb Trial,[1] is an Ancient Shrine in Breath of the Wild.

Entrance to the Shrine

Ja Baij Shrine is located in the ruins of the Eastern Abbey on the Great Plateau. As with all other Ancient Shrines initially found on the Great Plateau, it must be completed as part of "The Isolated Plateau" Main Quest.[2] It is guarded by Decayed Guardians and surrounded by large walls. Link can climb the wall or use the Guardian's laser to destroy the bombable wall blocking the entrance. When Link enters the Ancient Shrine, he will be greeted by its Monk, Ja Baij.[3]

Themes and Navigation

After entering Ja Baij Shrine, Link can obtain the Remote Bomb Rune by placing his Sheikah Slate in the Sheikah Slate Pedestal below the nearby Guidance Stone.[4][5] This Rune is needed in order to progress. Immediately, Link will need to use his Remote Bombs to destroy the cracked walls blocking his path.

After this, Link will find himself in a hallway with two branches. Exploding the cracked walls on the left will lead to a Ladder, where Link will encounter a moving platform with several cracked walls on the other side. By placing the square Remote Bomb on the platform, Link can activate it once it is close to the walls, allowing him to ride the platform to the other side.

On the other side of the platform is a large chamber, from which Ja Baij's Monk's Pedestal can be seen. However, it is located a floor above Link, and the Ladder leading up to it is blocked by walls. Four Tilted Platforms are found in this room. Two on the left exchange an Ancient Orb, demonstrating how Tilted Platforms can be used to to push Objects forward. By placing a Remote Bomb in the Tilted Platform on the right, Link can explode it when it reaches the walls, clearing the path to Ja Baij.

At the end of the Ancient Shrine, Ja Baij will be waiting for Link. If this is the first Ancient Shrine that Link has completed, Ja Baij will explain that they are a Monk of Hylia, dedicated to aiding those who fight Calamity Ganon.[6] With Link's arrival, Ja Baij's purpose is fulfilled, and the Monk gives him a Spirit Orb as a reward.[7][8] Ja Baij will then wish Link well before fading away.[9]

In the hallway at the beginning of the Ancient Shrine, Link can go right to find another wall. Destroying this wall will reveal a Treasure Chest containing a Traveler's Claymore. A second Treasure Chest can only be accessed by using the Tilted Platform on the left side of the final chamber to send Link across the room. Inside, Link will find an Amber.
