Temperature
Temperature is a recurring gameplay mechanic in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][name references needed]
Overview
Ocarina of Time
Temperature is briefly used within the Death Mountain Crater and sections of the Fire Temple to hinder Link's progression. When exposed to the Scorching Climate, a timer will appear and will cause Link to die unless he is revived by a Fairy. However, this can be prevented by wearing the Goron Tunic, allowing Link to stay cool indefinitely and survive the scorching heat. The amount of time Link has is eight seconds for every Heart in his Life Gauge when the timer appears.
Skyward Sword
Link is incapable of entering places with high Temperatures like the Volcano Summit, but this time Link is slowly damaged catches fire instead being subjected to a timer. To stay cool when entering areas with high Temperatures, Link must obtain the Fireshield Earrings from Din's Silent Realm trial.
Breath of the Wild
Unlike in the previous games, Temperature is now a gameplay mechanic featured everywhere around Hyrule Kingdom, and Link can check the Temperature with a dial on the bottom-right screen or opening his Sheikah Slate and viewing the Map section with actual measurements. When exposed to extreme Temperatures, Link will begin to take damage, but can prevent this by going to a more temperate area, entering bodies of Water in Scorching Climates, equipping an elemental Weapon, wearing certain Armor, or eating Food with status effects.
When the Temperature drops below 32°F0°C, Link will experience a basic level of cold Temperature that will slowly damage him. When the Temperature drops below 14°F-10°C, Link will experience an advanced level of cold Temperature and will take damage more quickly. Certain bodies of water in Freezing Climates will cause Link to quickly take damage; no armor, elixir nor food can offer protection against this. Similarly, when the Temperature rises above 104°F40°C, Link will experience a basic level of Heat, he will also slowly sustain damage. When the Temperature rises above 122°F50°C, Link will experience an advanced level of Heat and take damage more quickly. Places that contain lava flows raise Temperatures significantly beyond normal Heat, the Sheikah Slate will malfunction and read "ERROR". Additionally, Link and any wooden equipment exposed to the environment will begin to catch fire.
Tears of the Kingdom
Temperature is present all throughout Hyrule and the Sky Islands above it. Some locations are too cold for Link to withstand without special Armor or other protective measures.
