Breath of the Wild

The Northwest Gate is one of three gates that serve as an entrance to Gerudo Town. It is guarded by Laine, a Gerudo Soldier. Past the Gate is the Sand-Seal Rental Shop Northwest Booth, which is operated by Kohm.

When Link speaks to Laine at the Northwest Gate, she will warn him against traveling the West Barrens during a Sandstorm, as travelers can easily become lost.[4] She warns him that both thieves and priceless treasures are hidden in Sandstorms.[5] After receiving permission from Teake during the "Divine Beast Vah Naboris" Main Quest, Link will be able to ask Laine about the Karusa Valley.[6] She will point him towards the Valley from the Northwest Gate.[7]

Link can also ask about the treasure in the Sandstorm.[8] Laine points out the nearby Swordswoman Statue, explaining that there are more of them throughout the Gerudo Desert.[9] There are rumors that the Statues lead towards an ancient treasure, but she dismisses this as superstition.[10] She also considers it too risky, considering the dangerous Monsters in the area.[11] This begins "The Silent Swordswomen" Shrine Quest.
