The Wing Dungeon is the second Dungeon of Oracle of Ages.[1] It is located within the Deku Forest, west of Lynna Village.

Entrance to the Dungeon

Although the dungeon itself exists in the past, an entrance to the dungeon is also found in the present within the Fairies' Woods (the present-time equivalent of the Deku Forest). In fact, Link is first instructed by the Maku Tree to seach for the next Essence within the Fairies' Woods. Upon arriving, Link will meet three Stray Fairies, who will only allow Link to access the dungeon if he can beat them in a game of Hide and Seek. When Link arrives at the dungeon entrance, the dungeon itself will collapse. Link must return to Nayru's house and find the Harp of Ages therein, in the hopes of finding an entrance to the dungeon in the past.[2] Once in the past, Link will find the entrance to the Wing Dungeon within the Deku Forest, but will be unable to access it because the entrance is covered in stone. Link can obtain some Bombs to blast the entrance open by bringing the much sought after Mystery Seeds found within the forest to Queen Ambi.[3] This finally allows Link to enter the second dungeon in the game.

Themes and Navigation

The Wing Dungeon is most likely named after the shape of the dungeon itself, which resembles a bird in flight. It also happens that the mini-boss of the dungeon is Swoop, a stone bird-creature, and the item obtained after defeating it is the Roc's Feather. The Wing Dungeon is the first dungeon of the game to feature Mine Carts. Many of the puzzles within the dungeon are color-themed. The final boss of the dungeon is Head Thwomp, reminiscent of Thwomps from the Mario Series. Once Link succeeds in defeating Head Thwomp, he will receive another Essence of Time, the Ancient Wood, along with a Heart Container.
