"A Rift in the Faron Wetlands" is a Main Quest in Echoes of Wisdom.[1]

Overview

During the Main Quest "Lands of the Goddesses", the King of Hyrule requests that Princess Zelda and Tri mend the three large Rifts that have appeared throughout Hyrule, one of which is located in the Faron Wetlands.[2] When Minister Lefte is asked about the Wetlands, she admits that not much is known about the area, but she suggests that Zelda question the locals there about the Rift.[3] As Zelda begins to explore the Faron Wetlands, Tri notes how many Rifts there are, and they direct Zelda to investigate the large Rift in the northern Wetlands.[4] Following this conversation, "A Rift in the Faron Wetlands" will begin.

When Zelda and Tri reach the Deku Scrub village, Scrubton, Tri floats around to observe the Scrubs eating Cotton Candy.[5] Two Scrubs, Bempu and Buzzu, discuss how the Cotton Candy is made from the Webs of a being known as the "Great Spider", which appeared after dark thorns showed up in The Sweet Spot.[6] Tri returns to Zelda to inform her of what they have learned.[7] They also request that she avoid the Cotton Candy.[8] At The Sweet Spot, Tri observes the large Rift, and they passes through the walls in order to determine if they can create an entrance to the Still World.[9] Upon returning, Tri confirms that they can do so, although they note that Zelda will need to use the door to reach it.[10] One of the Sweet Spot's guards notices Zelda nearby, and they tell her that she cannot enter.[11] Noticing that she seems confused, the other guard calls her a "bumpkin".[12] They explain that The Sweet Spot is exclusive to members only and she will need a Membership Card in order to enter.[13] However, there are no longer any Cards available.[14] Since Zelda is not a member, they tell her to leave.[15] Although Tri is disappointed, they resolve to finding a Membership Card.[16]

By speaking to the Deku Scrubs in Scrubton, Zelda can learn about the locations of two Membership Cards. One is in the possession of a Scrub at Heart Lake, while another Scrub with a Membership Card can be found at the East Ruins.[17][18] At the East Ruins, Zelda and Tri can find a Deku Scrub looking for someone else.[19] If Zelda asks them about Membership Cards, the Scrub reveals that they came here in search of one after their friend Blossu told them to.[20] When asked about Blossu, the Scrub explains that a large Rift has appeared near their home in the southern Faron Wetlands.[21]

At Heart Lake, Zelda and Tri find that it has been partially consumed by a Rift, and a nearby Deku Scrub crying that their romantic partner has not shown up.[22] Tri suggests asking them about their Membership Card, noting that they have never heard such noises before.[23] When Zelda approaches the Scrub, they continue crying about how their partner must hate them.[24] If Zelda tries asking about their Card, the Scrub refuses to answer.[25] Tri is able to create an entrance to the Rift, which catches the Scrub's attention.[26] They question what Zelda is doing, and upon realizing that their partner could be trapped inside the Rift, they jump in with the goal of saving them.[27] Afterwards, Tri urges Zelda to follow after them.[28] In Stilled Heart Lake, Tri senses that their fellow Tris are trapped in five different areas.[29] When they find the petrified Deku Scrub, Tri notes their state and comments on how worried they must have been.[30] Once all of the Tris have been resuced, Tri works with them to mend the Rift.[31] They then Warp Zelda back to Hyrule.[32]

Upon returning to Heart Lake, both Deku Scrubs can be seen confused in the middle of the Lake.[33] The original Scrub is excited to see their partner, who explains that they cannot remember anything after falling into the dark thorns.[34] The partner notices that something is wrong with them, and they admit that they thought their partner did not love them anymore.[35] The second Deku Scrub assures the first of their love, and the two of them reconcile with each other.[36] Now that the Scrubs can see them, Tri asks them directly if they can have their Membership Card.[37] However, the Scrubs refuse, citing their plans to go on a date to The Sweet Spot.[38] However, they direct Zelda and Tri to Blossu as well.[39]

Blossu's House is located in the southeastern corner of the Faron Wetlands. There, Zelda and Tri find Blossu standing in front of a Rift with three Deku Scrub guards. One of the guards enjoys some Cotton Candy, while the other two comment on how lucky Blossu is to have access to the dark thorns.[40] Blossu admits that they used to feel this way, but they are now angry that most of their House has been swallowed by the Rift.[41] The Scrubs remind Blossu that they have unlimited access to Cotton Candy and a Membership Card to The Sweet Spot, but Blossu is still saddened by the loss of their House.[42]

Tri is able to create and entrance to the Rift, which allows Zelda to access Stilled Blossu's House.[26] In order to mend the Rift, Zelda must rescue the Tris trapped in five different locations.[29] Once this has been done, Tri will mend the Rift and Warp Zelda back to Blossu's House.[31][32] Outside of Blossu's House, the Deku Scrub guards are complaning that the Rift has disappeared and their access to Webs has disappeared.[43] Blossu approaches Zelda, and after they confirm that she was the one who mended the Rift, they express how relieved they are to have their House back.[44] Upon learning this, the guards are outraged, calling Zelda names and asking where they are supposed to get Cotton Candy now.[45] As a result, the guards arrest Zelda.

Zelda is imprisoned within the Deku Scrub Lockup. One of the guards scolds her for her actions, claiming they will leave her in her cell until she shows remorse.[46] Before leaving, the Deku Scrub informs Zelda that they have confiscated all of her Items.[47] Since they would feel bad leaving Zelda with nothing, however, they give her a Stick.[48][49] The guard then reveals their plans to use the Tri Rod to eat Cotton Candy, which confuses Tri.[50] They depart to eat Cotton Candy, leaving the Lockup Key behind.[51] Zelda is able to use Bind with the Stick, allowing her to drag the Lockup Key into her cell and escape.

After avoiding the patrolling Deku Scrub guards and reaching the end of the Lockup, Zelda and Tri find the guard from earlier eating Cotton Candy off of the Tri Rod.[52] Tri is outraged by this, and they ask Zelda what they should do.[53] Eventually, the guard notices Zelda nearby and realizes she has come to reclaim the Tri Rod.[54] Tri argues that the Rod is too special to be used for Cotton Candy, and they request that Zelda demand it back.[55] The Scrub agrees to return the Rod, but they take a moment to finish their Cotton Candy first.[56] Zelda is able to take back all of her Items, although the Tri Rod is noticeably sticky.[57] The guard comments that the Rod's shape made it a bad fit for Cotton Candy, leaving afterwards.[58] Tri feels sick because of what happened to the Tri Rod, and they ask Zelda to clean it when she has a chance.[59]

Zelda and Tri are able to leave the Deku Scrub Lockup via an underwater passageway, which is accessible through a Well. When they reach Scrubton, they find Blossu waiting for Zelda.[60] Tri recognizes them from their previous encounter, and Blossu thanks Zelda for getting rid of the Rift near their House.[61] They reveal that they are tired of Cotton Candy and no longer want their Membership Card.[62] Upon hearing this, Tri urges Zelda to ask for the Card.[63] Since Zelda helped them previously, Blossu agrees to give Zelda their Card.[64] They admit that they would have thrown the Membership Card out if Zelda had not wanted it, at which point they return to their House.[65] After they leave, Tri celebrates that they have acquired the Card.[66]

When Zelda returns to The Sweet Spot, the guards initially taunt her.[67] Upon presenting her Membership Card, the Deku Scrubs change their attitudes and open the door for her.[68] Before she enters, one guard tells her to have a "sweet time."[69] Inside, Zelda finds five Deku Scrubs spinning Cotton Candy from Webs.[70] A nearby Scrub notices Zelda and asks if she is a new member.[71] Suddenly, the Rift in the back of the chamber begins to expand, and the Scrub by the entrance tries to warn those closest to it.[72] However, they ignore the Scrub and call them annoying, resulting in them falling into the Rift.[73] The two remaining Deku Scrubs begin to panic.[74] A Tecuum emerges from the Rift, and the Scrubs cower and beg for help.[75]

After Zelda defeats the Crawltulas summoned by the Tecuum, the first Deku Scrub laments that their friends have disappeared.[76] The second Scrub comments on how they must have access to unlimited Cotton Candy now, and their companion is outraged by them.[77] The first Scrub remarks on how dangerous the "dark thorns" ended up being, and they are worried that their friends will never come back.[78] Tri states that they can rescue the missing Deku Scrubs if they mend the Rift, which Zelda passes on for them.[79] The first Scrub is interested, but the second is concerned about losing the source of Cotton Candy.[80] The first asks if they care more about Cotton Candy than their friends, and they become angered by the second's silence.[81] Tri states that it is time for them to leave, and the first Scrub begs Zelda to save their friends.[82] The second Scrub mentions Cotton Candy again, though they insist they were kidding soon after.[83]

Tri creates an entrance to the Rift, allowing Zelda to access the Stilled Faron Wetlands.[26] As the pair approach the Faron Temple, Tri is able to sense their friends inside.[84] They notice the Treasure Chest containing the Boss Key in front of them, but it is swallowed by a large plant that flees into the Temple. When they enter the Temple, Tri senses that the other Tris are close, though they are daunted by the Temple's size.[85] Eventually, Zelda is able to find and defeat Manhandla, allowing her to open the Chest and take the Boss Key. In the Faron Temple's Boss Room, Zelda is confronted by Gohma.

Once Gohma has been defeated, the Tris trapped inside of it will be freed. Tri then works with their friends to mend the oversized Rift in the Faron Wetlands. Upon returning, Tri reveals that their friends shared some Power with them.[86] Suddenly, a green Light begins to shine, and Farore appears before Zelda and Tri. She commends Zelda's courage, claiming that it allowed her to restore the Wetlands.[87] Due to this, she grants Zelda Farore's Sanction.[88] At the end of their conversation, Farore states that Zelda's courage will save her one day.[89] After Farore departs, Tri offers to Warp Zelda back to Hyrule.[90]

Tri Warps Zelda back to The Sweet Spot. Two of the Deku Scrubs who fell into the Rift comment on their negative experience, and the Scrub who asked Zelda to save their friends thanks her for doing so.[91] One of the Scrubs notices their companion looking around, who explains that they can smell something.[92] Another Scrub notices the scent as well, descibing it at Fruity.[93] They recognize that it is the scent of Smoothies from the Business Scrub's Smoothie Shop, which they have been ignoring in favor of Cotton Candy.[94] Upon realizing that this must mean Smoothies are now popular in Scrubton, all five Deku Scrubs rush out of The Sweet Spot to purchase their own.[95]

Tri comments that the Deku Scrubs have not learned anything about chasing trends from the Cotton Candy incident, and they leave The Sweet Spot with Zelda.[96] Outside, they find the residents of Scrubton crowding around the Smoothie Shop and drinking Smoothies. The two Scrubs who avoided the Rift bow to Zelda before leaving. Tri states that, while they do not understand the Scrubs, they are glad to see that they are happy.[97] Tri is also relieved to have mended the Rift and received Farore's Sanction.[98][99] If Zelda has not yet completed "The Rift on Eldin Volcano" and "Rift on Holy Mount Lanayru", Tri will direct her to visit these regions next.[100][101][102] Afterwards, "A Rift in the Faron Wetlands" will be completed.

Once "A Rift in the Faron Wetlands" has been finished, the Side Quests "Looking for Bempu", "Mobbing Mothulas!", and "The Mythical Deku Snake" all become available. If both "A Rift in the Faron Wetlands" and "Let's Play a Game" have been finished, the Side Quest "Cotton-Candy Hunt" will become available as well.
