The Akkala Citadel Ruins are a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]

Features and Overview

Breath of the Wild

In Breath of the Wild, the Akkala Citadel Ruins are the remains of a fortress built to protect the Akkala Region from all conceivable threats,[3] and to protect Hyrule as a whole from invaders coming from the sea to the east.[4] However, the events of the second Great Calamity forced the remains of Hyrule's leaderless army to retreat to the Akkala Citadel, where they were assailed by Guardians under Calamity Ganon's control.[5] Unable to match the sheer power of the ancient Sheikah technology, the soldiers fell in battle, marking the decisive end to the Kingdom of Hyrule.[6][7] A century later, a traveler named Nell decided to visit the Akkala Citadel Ruins to pay respects for his relatives who fell during the battle. However, as the Akkala Citadel Ruins are still inhabited by Guardians, Nell is unable to complete his journey.

Atop a broken balcony on the northern side of the Ruins, Link can find several Arrows as well as a metal door covering a Rock under which a Korok can be found. On the wall above this point, a second Korok can be found hiding under a Rock beneath a pile of dead leaves. A third Korok can be found underneath a Rock beside a row of Cannons south of the Akkala Tower.

In the years following Calamity Ganon's defeat, the Malice that covered the top of the Akkala Citadel Ruins has vanished, making the top area more explorable. Two Caves have become accessible as a result, these being the Akkala Citadel Ruins Cave at the Ruins' base and the Akkala Citadel Ruins Summit Cave near where the Akkala Tower used to be. The latter Cave is one of three key locations to completing the "Misko's Treasure: The Fierce Deity" Side Quest. At the top of the Ruins lies Domizuin Shrine, which serves as a new Warping point. A Gloom Spawn also resides in the immediate area.

The Ancient Underground Fortress in the Depths is a counterpart to the Akkala Citadel Ruins.
