Features and Overview

Ancient Hyrule is the version of Hyrule that existed during the Era of Foundation. After cleansing the land from Demons, Rauru and Sonia founded Hyrule Kingdom atop the Great Plateau in Ancient Hyrule. They settled the Ancient Hyrule Castle at the base of Mount Hylia. They gathered support from the various tribes across the land, incorporating the Gorons, Hylians, Rito, and Zora into their Kingdom. Eventually, the Gerudo also swore fealty to the Kingdom under Ganondorf's rule. However, this was a ploy from Ganondorf to steal a Secret Stone and begin what would come to be known as the Imprisoning War to wrest control of the land for himself.

The Floor Map depicting Ancient Hyrule's geography

The geography of Ancient Hyrule was slightly different to its present day counterpart. Notably, Central Hyrule featured several large lakes and bodies of Water which covered the land north of the Great Plateau. The Sacred Ground Ruins do not exist as a result of this. A gazebo used by the Royal Family of Hyrule was built in between the rivers surrounding Lake Kolomo. Certain landmarks such as the Bridge of Hylia are present, indicating their age. A ring of smoke encircled the peak of Death Mountain. Because Ancient Hyrule existed before the 10,000-Year-Old Calamity, the Hebra Peak remains intact with no damage, and the Dueling Peaks exist as a single mountain. The Fir River and Squabble River are both absent. The Forgotten Temple bore a different style of architecture and lacked its characteristic Mother Goddess Statue. At this point in history, Zora's Domain had not been settled by the Zora.

The walls surrounding the Great Plateau are different in design, although ruined portions of the contemporary design used in the Era of the Wilds can still be seen. Shrines of Light stand in the spots where Ancient Shrines would eventually be built atop the Plateau, indicating that they were moved or deconstructed at some point. The Temple of Time atop the Great Plateau was raised into the Sky by Mineru following the Imprisoning War, and a structure that later came to be known as the Temple of Time Ruins was built in its place to fulfill religious purposes by the Kingdom.

The people of Ancient Hyrule

Hylians in this time period were heavily influenced by the Zonai and made use of Zonai Technology. They also featured much longer ears than their contemporary counterparts. Hylian Soldiers wore feathered headpieces and jewelry. They made use of Old Wooden Bows and Spears. Hylian men typically wore white togas and a covered the left side of their torsos with colored cloth that ended with triangular tassels which evoked the Triforce. Hylian women were shown wearing simplistic layered dresses.
