Themes and Navigation

Riding a Lava Slab to the higher ledge in Stage 1

In Stage 1, the Links appear in a fiery cavern, overlooking a pool of Lava. The Links cross a river of Lava by throwing each other across to where three Boomerangs await; the last Link must be carried across by having another Link throw a Boomerang at him. A Big Switch on the other side creates a stone bridge over a wider river. The Links then move onto a Lava Slab that is lifted up into the air by a Lava Geyser, and ride it to the ledge above. They then must cross another river, but carefully time their approach so as to avoid the river's Lava Geysers. The Triforce Gateway lies just ahead.

A Flame Wall blocking the Triforce Gateway in Stage 2

Stage 2 is a large lake of Lava. The Links must carefully walk along paths made of unstable Lava Slabs, which will sink into the Lava beneath their weight. On a sloped ledge to the north is the Triforce Gateway, but it is initially surrounded by a Flame Wall. Instead the Links must make their way across the Lava Slabs to an island surrounded by flame jets, and press its three Floor Switches. At the same time. This traps the Links inside a Flame Wall and summons a horde of Hinoxes and Fire Keese. Defeating them removes the trap, as well as the Flame Wall around the Triforce Gateway.

Crossing rivers of Lava in Stage 3

Stage 3 places the Links next to a Lava-fall. Volcanic Rocks will fall and attempt to crush the Links from above. The Links must quickly make their way through the area, using a combination of Totem formations and the Boomerang to carry each other across the Lava river as they climb upward. At the end of the Stage is a Flame Wall blocking the passage ahead; two Shock Switches on the other side can be hit by forming a Totem of three and throwing the Boomerang at them. This opens the way to the Triforce Gateway.

Battling Enemies in Stage 4

In Stage 4, the Links appear on an isolated island in the middle of a massive Lava lake. The Lava will periodically lower, revealing red stone that the Links can walk on to the other islands, but will soon submerge again. Here the Links must fight a group of Fire Keese and Red Kodongos, the latter of which swims in the magma and can only be attacked when it lowers. Once all the enemies are defeated, the Triforce Gateway opens on an island in the southern portion, and the Lava will stop rising. The Triforce Gateway can be reached by throwing one or more Links onto the raised island, and then carrying the remaining Links over from a nearby island with the Boomerang. Treasure Chests containing Rupees and Hearts can also be found on the other islands.

Drablands Challenges

Once the Boss of the Volcano has been defeated, Blazing Trail can be replayed with the following Drablands Challenges: "Pop all balloons!", "Evade the Wallmaster!", and "Transport the orb quickly!".

In "Pop all balloons!", the four Stages each contain 10 Balloons, for a total of 40. Several of them are found floating outside the areas where the Links can walk, and can be popped by throwing a Boomerang at them.

In "Transport the orb quickly!", the Links are given a timer of one minute in Multiplayer, or two minutes and 25 seconds in single-player. This timer can be increased by collecting Hourglasses or wearing Linebeck's Uniform.

At the end of the Level, three Treasure Chests can be opened. Two contain the same Material, and one contains another, more valuable Material.

Trivia

  • As described in Vol. 3 of the Drablands Diary, some fossilized bones are hidden in each Level of the Volcano. They can be found in Stage 1 of Blazing Trail by using the Goron Garb to swim in the east part of the highest Lava pool, then shifting the camera upward.
