Bottled Letters,[1] also known as Message Bottles,[2] are Objects in Tears of the Kingdom.

Location and Uses

Bottled Letters can be found in several locations throughout Hyrule. They contain messages that Link can read.

On the western peninsula of Hateno Beach, Link can find a Bottled Letter surrounded by several Brightbloom Seeds. The writer of the Letter reveals that they have been trapped in a Cave, and they ask for the reader to come and rescue them.[3] Reading this Bottled Letter starts the "A Bottled Cry for Help" Side Quest.

During the "A Letter to Koyin" Side Adventure, Koyin at Hateno Pasture has lost the Bottled Letter left by her great-grandfather in Lake Sumac.[4][5] Due to the messiness of his handwriting, the contents of the Letter are illegible to those other than Koyin.[6] If Link retrieves the Letter for her, Koyin decides to follow his instructions and attempt to make Hateno Cheese,[7] which she gives Link as a reward for helping her.[8]

During the "White Goats Gone Missing" Side Adventure, Link can find a Bottled Letter on the Seres Scablands, which contains the recipe for livestock feed that Zelda gave Chork.[9] An additional Bottled Letter, known as Misko's Letter, can be found in the Cephla Lake Cave. At the end of the "Misko's Treasure: The Fierce Deity" Side Quest, another Bottled Letter from Misko can be found in Cephla Lake Cave.

To whoever finds this letter...

You gotta help me out!

I was out fishing when I got caught in a storm and had to run into a nearby cave to take shelter.

Just when I was starting to dry off, this big rock came down and trapped me in here.

I've managed to get some brightbloom seeds through a gap and into the water as a sort of marker.

If I'm lucky, the seeds will blossom and the tide will take this letter and the flowers to shore.

If you're reading this, it must've worked! So, whoever you are, I got a favor to ask.

Could you follow the trail of brightblooms back to this cave and get me out of here? It'd be a real help!

  4. I finally found the letter my great-grandpa left, but... Can't read for it—my arms are too short. Pond's too deep to swim, and anyways I don't know how. But that letter has the advice I need to get this farm back on its feet... If I don't get my hands on it, we're sunk. — Koyin (Tears of the Kingdom)

  7. I call it Hateno cheese. That message by great-grandpa left behind had the recipe. It's springy on the outside but melty on the inside and so delicious, you'll think you're dreaming! — Koyin (Tears of the Kingdom)
  8. But back to the reason I called you here. It's... Well, you know... I couldn't have made this without you, so I... I wanted you to be the first to have some... A-anyway, consider this my thanks. Go on—take it already. — Koyin (Tears of the Kingdom)
