"Champion Daruk's Song" is the second EX Recovered Memory in The Champions' Ballad Downloadable Content pack for Breath of the Wild.[1]
Overview
"Champion Daruk's Song" is triggered upon completion of the "EX Champion Daruk's Song" Main Quest, after listening to Kass's recently composed song about the Goron Champion, Daruk.[2] The Recovered Memory starts as a meeting between Zelda and Daruk as the pair walk along the Mountain Road through Eldin Canyon. They are accompanied by two Knights of Hyrule.
After being asked by Zelda, Daruk agrees to pilot Divine Beast Vah Rudania for Hyrule Kingdom's fight against Calamity Ganon.[3][4] Zelda thanks Daruk.[5] He remarks that there has been a significant increase in Monsters attacking people, and he suggests that Zelda avoid being outside Hyrule Castle without a horde of Gorons watching out for her.[6] Zelda in turn says that Daruk sounds like her father, adding that the King is assigning a Knight to follow her around wherever she goes.[7] When she states that the top contender is the most accomplished swordsman in all of Hyrule Kingdom, Daruk realizes that she is probably talking about Link.[8]
Before Daruk can relay his thoughts, however, he spots a group of Bokoblins rushing angrily towards a spot just beside the Road.[9] Once he realizes someone is in danger, Daruk tells Zelda to stand back and then charges at the Bokoblins.[10] While Zelda's bodyguards step in front of her to keep her safe, Daruk strikes two Bokoblins with his Boulder Breaker, then dispatches the rest of the group by striking the ground.
As the dust settles and the remaining Bokoblins flee in terror, Daruk laughs triumphantly as Zelda runs up behind him.[11] She then notices what the Bokoblins were attacking: a Hylian Retriever. As Zelda beckons and comforts the Dog,[12] she congratulates Daruk for saving it.[13] However, she realizes that Daruk is now quivering in fear at the sight of the Dog. The Retriever then barks once at Daruk, who yelps fearfully and covers himself with his barrier.
A moment later, the group sees the Hylian Retriever off, and Daruk apologizes for allowing Zelda to see him in such a state.[14] He admits that he was chased by Dogs a lot when he was younger and that the sight of them still makes him panic today.[15] An amused Zelda remarks that she "never imagined the Great Daruk would have a weakness".[16] Daruk then sheepishly asks whether or not Calamity Ganon is some kind of Dog monster.[17] Zelda, after staring back at Daruk in astonished silence for a moment, breaks into a giggling fit, which Daruk sheepishly joins in on as the Memory ends.
