This link seems ironic to me. http://zeldawiki.org/index.php?search=quality+standards&go=Go ~Scott

yeah, yeah. I'll get around to doing that one day. It was just part of the template. :P --Jase 14:10, 9 January 2007 (CST)

Protection

Hey, I'm guessing that this page was protected purely because of the previous vandalism. I'm guessing that now we could unprotect it, but I'd figure I'd ask before I did it, just in case there was some reason it was never done before that was decided on before my time here began. --Ando 00:41, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, it was attacked repeatedly by vandals a while back. I've unbprotected it since that's no longer an issue :) --Adam 06:50, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Expansion

Isn't there a way for us to expand this page?Emma (Talk) 07:40, November 6, 2008 (UTC)

Yes there is, you know the history of it and you could add in stuff like ZW's Facebook launch date, the Contributor banners info offered by forums, Our other discussion places such as Skype, ZU's contributor lounge, the mention in that Philosophy book, and other significant milestones we've achieved. Axiomist (talk) 07:24, 24 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hmm...This sounds like an interesting idea. I think we could try it.Mandi Talk 07:43, 24 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Some of the above info:

  • 11 November 2008 - ZU Contributor Banner announced
  • The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy, page xiii:-

"Want to know anything about the Zelda franchise, anything at all? Just look it up on zeldawiki.org - an online Zelda encyclopedia."

Don't really know about the rest of the stuff, may be worth mentioning the now-deceased chatroom with its dates. Also, I'm sure there's some good info in the News Archives. I'd really like to get some info on the progression in the total number of articles and registered users, but I'm also pretty sure none of that is recorded anywhere and we only have the current live data. Adam [ talk ] 12:58, 24 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sounds great, The main body of the article is about it's creation. Could anyone one write up anything about the rest of 'the masterminds' joining/merging wikis, etc. Well, not that I don't want to work on it, I just know very little about how it all came to. But I'll see what I can do. Axiomist (talk) 08:42, 26 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, I think that'd be a great addition. People would be really interested in knowing where there own website came in. Do we have an old folk in the house? Perhaps a librarian of sorts? Alter  {T C B H } 04:24, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wait a second...

Someone from your site gave you the best Zelda website award and you consider it an achievement? I honestly don't even mean this in a bad way, I'm just having trouble wrapping my head around it. --EDJoe45 04:01, 19 January 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Beg your pardon? Do you mean the Zelda and Philosophy book? That wasn't written by a community member :PUser:Justin ZW/sig 04:05, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Nah, I mean the second part in the "Achievements" section. I may even be wrong though, I just scanned this real quick and didn't really read into it a ton. --EDJoe45 04:07, 19 January 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's an award from LegendofZelda.com, not a user from our site, and it does leave it quite ambiguous when it comes down to describing a "best site". I wouldn't look to far into it, EDJ. =)User:Cipriano 119/sig 17:06, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Original NIWA Pitch

@Emma can you confirm whether the statements I wrote in this footnote are accurate? You've already touched upon the subject on your user page but I think it would be good to have something on this talk page for the record. I'm planning to use a link to this discussion as the reference where that [citation needed] placeholder is currently.

I'd like to mention that I'm also working on something that I think will lend even more credibility to your claim. I just have to run it by the other staff first. PhantomCaleb (talk) 13:42, 15 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I do swear to the best of my ability and knowledge that the claims I have made are accurate to a reasonable degree. I summed the events up best I can on my userpage, sourced from whatever records I still have access to. For the record here, towards the end of September 2009, I was doing routine bulk wiki housekeeping and noticed obsolete interwiki links and it occurred to me it'd be useful to have a place to link to to cover Nintendo subjects that come up here but we can't really cover here. And as I was an admin at South Park Archives on Fandom at the time, having horrible experiences with their constant meddling, and aware of Jess complaining about Fandom's offers to buy Zelda Wiki she'd be rejecting, I suggested in the Zelda Wiki Admin Chat on Skype, which I was the sole controller of, that we approach Bulbapedia and Mario Wiki about forming a partnership. My idea was dismissed, and was told it was not practical, and three weeks later a false incident was arranged, detailed on my page, that would give the pretext to remove me as an admin and force the total deletion of the chats I controlled, including that one. So the records were lost, and couldn't be recovered especially after my computer died in 2016. Less than a few weeks later the very same people who dismissed my idea and falsely accused me of wrong doing, started the process of forming NIWA. The behavior of these individuals was not a secret, they did things like this in public in front of witnesses all the time, and others around at the time would not find my claims that far fetched in my belief. - Emma (Talk) 14:18, 15 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Official Nintendo Magazine mention

As of this edit the article's "Achievements" section has been merged into the "History" section.

I can certainly imagine the excitement that must've surrounded ONM's shout-out back in the wiki's early days. But we're 10+ years on from that now and I think it's time to acknowledge that this is just another event in our history. It's still a notable one of course—just not deserving of a section unto itself. The section came off rather prideful and lacking neutrality.

The scans of the relevant ONM pages also felt like a bit much. I removed them in favor of a normal Template:Cite Magazine reference.

Given that these appear to be the only such scans on the public internet, I'm moving them here so they don't get lost completely.

I'm also a bit confused about some of the details here. The article previously referred to issue 53 of the UK magazine and issue 16 of the AU/NZ magazine. But according to Retromags.com (here and here), UK issue 53 (March 2010) corresponds to AU issue 15, not 16.

For now I just added a citation for the March 2010 issue. I reached out to the uploader of the AU/NZ scan on Discord to see if they can help sort this out. PhantomCaleb (talk) 22:54, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

SnorlaxMonster confirmed that their scan is indeed from issue 16 which is labelled the April 2010 issue. Nothing surprising there—of all people to have it right from the beginning it would definitely be Snorlax.
I guess I should just trust that folks got it right in the first place, and there's simply a one month offset between the UK and Oceania versions of the magazine.
Given how big a deal this was to ZW at the time, it seems unlikely that we had gotten the details wrong here. PhantomCaleb (talk) 05:46, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
