Critical Hit
Critical Hits are a recurring mechanic in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]
Overview
Breath of the Wild
Critical Hits are strikes that deal twice the normal damage for a Weapon. There are three ways to achieve this effect: hitting an Enemy's head or Eye with an Arrow,[3][1] successfully throwing a Weapon at an Enemy,[4] and breaking a Weapon while striking an Enemy.[5] Weapons can be found with a Critical Hit Weapon Bonus, which increases the likelihood of landing a Critical Hit in the final blow of a chain of attacks. A unique sound effect will play to indicate a Critical Hit: a high-pitch sound when an Arrow is shot, and a loud popping sound for melee Weapons.
Sneakstrikes are a similar phenomenon, which deal more damage by stealthily attacking an unaware enemy from behind.
Tears of the Kingdom
Critical Hits return in Tears of the Kingdom, and they are attainable by the same methods present in Breath of the Wild. In addition, another way to perform a Critical Strike is to attack Enemies with a One-Handed Weapon while riding a Horse at full speed.
