Daybreakers are wielded by Urbosa in conjunction with Scimitars of the Seven, which she uses to defend herself against frontal attacks. During several Narrations and Movies, a Daybreaker is featured as Urbosa's default Shield.
Daybreaker
Daybreakers are recurring Items in The Legend of Zelda series.(BotWBreath of the Wild | TotKTears of the Kingdom)[1][2][name references needed] Daybreakers go unnamed in Age of Calamity.
Location and Uses
Breath of the Wild
Daybreakers are the most durable and protective variant of the Gerudo Shield, adorned with a jeweled Crest of the Gerudo. Paired with Scimitars of the Seven, they make the Champion's Arms. They were designed to be both lightweight and durable, and the gold used to make them is handpicked to ensure this.[1] They belong to the Gerudo Gear equipment archetype.[3]
Before the Great Calamity, a Daybreaker was beloved by the Gerudo Champion Urbosa.[1] Both it and her Scimiat of the Seven were made by a Gerudo jeweler.[4] During the EX Recovered Memory "Champion Urbosa's Song", Urbosa can be seen performing a Parry with her Daybreaker. After Urbosa's death, her Daybreaker and Scimitar became treasures of the Gerudo.[5] After defeating Thunderblight Ganon and calming Divine Beast Vah Naboris, Riju will offer Link both pieces. She believes it is right he should have them, as he was friends with Urbosa.[5] Both Items can be found in Stone Chests behind Riju's Throne in the Royal Palace of Gerudo Town. If either Item breaks, Buliara will offer to remake them for Link. To create a Daybreaker, she needs one Diamond, five pieces of Flint, and a Gerudo Shield.[6]
Selmie will take note of a Daybreaker if Link has one equipped when he speaks to her. She will ask if she is dreaming, explaining that she has wanted a Daybreaker so badly that she has seen it in her dreams.[7]
Being made of metal, Daybreakers will conduct Electricity and attract Lightning if they are equipped during a Thunderstorm. They will also sink if they are dropped in Water, but they can still be picked up and manipulated with the Magnesis Rune if it happens. In addition, they will not burn like wooden Shields when exposed to Fire or a Scorching Climate.

Tears of the Kingdom
Daybreakers reappear in Tears of the Kingdom. They are part of the Arms of the Seven alongside Scimitars of the Seven, which can only be created by select individuals.[8] These Weapons form a bond with their owners, which is only broken when they are permanently lost.[9]
According to Isha, an ancestor of hers was responsible for making Urbosa's Daybreaker and Scimitar of the Seven.[10] Additionally, the Sage of Lightning Ardi can be seen wielding her own Daybreaker and Scimitar in flashbacks to the Era of Foundation's Imprisoning War.
During the Side Quest "Pride of the Gerudo", Isha chooses to make a Daybreaker and Scimitar of the Seven for Link.[8] She tasks Link with gathering the supplies she needs to make them, which is his responsibility as the person who will wield the Arms of the Seven.[11] To make a Daybreaker, Isha needs one Diamond, five pieces of Flint, and a Gerudo Shield.[12][13] Once Link has brought her all of the Materials, Isha proceeds to make the Daybreaker and Scimitar for him.[14] When she is done, she gives them to him, saying they are a representation of the gratitude the Gerudo feel for him.[15] She also offers to make a new Daybreaker for Link if his ever breaks.[13][16] However, she will refuse to do so if his Daybreaker can still be recovered, as his bond with it has not been broken.[9] Whenever Isha makes a Daybreaker for Link, she comments on its vibrant colors and her pride in her own work.[17]

Adorned with Gems
Among other things, the Gerudo are known for their craft in jewelry. They consider the gems used in their jewelry as talismans, absorbing both sunlight and moonlight, which cleanses evil. As such, they wear the jewelry as much as possible. Even Urbosa's shield and knife have been crafted by a jeweler rather than a blacksmith." — Voice Memories (Zelda Notes, US, June 5, 2025) - ↑ 5.0 5.1
I want to offer you these as thanks for your help. I trust you'll accept them. These pieces of equipment are priceless treasures of the Gerudo people. They were once worn by Lady Urbosa. Since you and Lady Urbosa were friends, it's only right that you have them.
— Riju (Breath of the Wild) - ↑
The Daybreaker, huh? To make it, I'll need one diamond, five pieces of flint, and a Gerudo shield.
— Buliara (Breath of the Wild) - ↑
A Daybreaker! Am I dreaming?! I've wanted that shield so bad that I've seen it in my dreams...
— Selmie (Breath of the Wild) - ↑ 8.0 8.1
You know...we all owe you a great debt, and I think I can begin to repay it by crafting the arms of the Seven for you. They are a sword and shield passed down by the Gerudo, and they can only be wielded by a chosen individual. I'm talking about the Scimitar of the Seven and the Daybreaker, of course. They're crafted using a special technique known only to me. And I...have chosen you to carry them. Will you let me make the arms of the Seven for you?
— Isha (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑ 9.0 9.1
Hm... That's strange... It appears that both the Daybreaker and the Scimitar of the Seven are not irretrievably lost. The arms of the Seven form a bond with their owner, you see. That bond is only broken when their recovery is impossible. Then, and only then, can they be remade.
— Isha (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
You're the second person I've made those for. Lady Riju was the first. My ancestor even made them for the Champion of the Gerudo some time ago.
— Isha (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
[Yes, please.] That's the spirit! OK then, I just need you to gather some materials for me. Can you do that? Truth be told, I'd like to gather the materials for you myself, but it is the duty of the bearer of the arms to do that.
— Isha (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
I need four diamonds, 10 pieces of flint... a Gerudo scimitar, and a Gerudo shield. Even a decayed Gerudo scimitar will do the trick! OK then...once you've gathered all of those materials together, come and talk to me, OK?
— Isha (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑ 13.0 13.1
I can make another Daybreaker if you bring me a diamond, five pieces of flint, and a Gerudo shield. If you've got the materials with you, I can get to crafting right away. Want me to get started?
— Isha (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
[Let's get to crafting!] OK then, let me just make sure you have everything I'll need... Four diamonds, 10 pieces of flint... a Gerudo scimitar, and a Gerudo shield. Heehee! I knew you could do it. This is everything I need to get to work! Give me just a minute...
— Isha (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
I poured all of my heart into making these. Here, take them. They are a true symbol of gratitude of the Gerudo.
— Isha (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
That really just goes to show how amazing they are. It'll make me happy if you take good care of them. But I did make them to be used, so don't feel like you need to preserve them... Should they ever be irretrievably lost, just bring me the materials again and I'll remake them for you.
— Isha (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
Such vivid colors... Not to brag, but my heart swells every time I see the results of my own skill... Here you go—all yours.
