The Decayed Master Sword in the Room of Awakening

The Master Sword is heavily damaged by Ganondorf's Gloom after Link and Zelda find the Demon King far Beneath Hyrule Castle. After Zelda falls and is transported through Time, Link is brought to the Great Sky Island's Room of Awakening by Rauru, who also transports the now Decayed Master Sword and transplants his Right Arm onto Link to save him from the corruption of Darkness. It is necessary to use the Sword to cut Vines in the doorways of the Room of Awakening.

In its Decayed state, the Master Sword is significantly shorter and possesses the lowest attack power of any Weapon. It is prone to losing energy much more quickly and will not restore itself after being depleted.[2] Fuse cannot be used on the Decayed Master Sword.[3]

Link handing off the Decayed Master Sword to the glowing ball of light

Once Link passes through the back Doors of the Temple of Time, he finds a golden glowing ball of light. As Link approaches it, the Decayed Master Sword speaks to him and instructs him to put it into the sphere of light. Upon Link doing so, it is transported to the distant past just after the conclusion of the Imprisoning War to find itself in Zelda's hands. Realizing what she must do to heal the Sword, Zelda swallows her Secret Stone and transforms into the Light Dragon while holding the Sword, embedding it within herself as she carries it through the millennia. With her sacred powers, she infuses the blade with even more strength so that it will not break against the Demon King's attacks.

Trivia

  • Although it is impossible to have in this scenario, the Decayed Master Sword shares a property with the normal Master Sword that causes it to deal 5x damage to the Demon Dragon. However, it does not power up in the presence of Gloom.
  • As the Decayed Master Sword is normally required to be used to cut the Vines in the Room of Awakening, it cannot lose Durability until the Vines are cut. As a side effect of this, if Link escapes the Room of Awakening through unintended means and without cutting the Vines, neither the Decayed Master Sword nor any other Weapon will be able to lose Durability through standard attacks until the cutscene that occurs when Link first attempts open the front Door of the Temple of Time.
