The Deciphered Slabs are a group of Objects in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Location and Uses

The Deciphered Slabs are a series of four Books found in the Ring Ruins in Kakariko Village. They were created by Tauro to store his translations of and notes about the Zonai writing on the Ring Ruins Stone Slabs.[2] Due to the Order of Princess Zelda, Tauro has been unable to access the Floating Ring Ruin and analyze any Ring Ruins Stone Slabs inside.[3]

The Book at the Southern Ring Ruin introduces the Sages, who served the first King of Hyrule.[4] Next, the Book at the Nestled Ring Ruin states that when one is chosen as a Sage, they are given a Secret Stone.[5] At the Eastern Ring Ruin, the Book describes some of the Sages' powers: Wind, Fire, Water, Lightning, Time, and Light.[6] Lastly, the Book corresponding to the Large Ring Ruin can be found among the Zonai Survey Team's Tents nearby, and it details how the King of Hyrule sacrificed himself to imprison the Demon King.[7]

The Stone Slab at the Eastern Ring Ruin: Some Translation Notes
-Tauro

"Wind, flame, water, lightning...and time... Light... Who holds the power...secret stone...and...
"That person...dwell within...power...amplify... Great...might...display..."

The thrust of the messages on this slab is about something called secret stones.

"Those who held powers such as wind, flame, water, lightning—and light and time—amplified them with secret stones.

"They used the stones to attain great might to accomplish their goals."

That's what I'm guessing it would say if we could read the whole thing.

The Stone Slab at the Large Ring Ruin: Some Translation Notes
-Tauro

"The Demon King...vast power... No hope...victory... King's own life... managed...imprison him...

"Imprison...not...indefinitely... Prepare... Demon...revival... We sages must...leave our knowledge...future generations..."

Reading between the lines, this stone slab seems to be a record of how the king is those days challenged the Demon King.

If I had to extrapolate the meaning, I'd guess at something like this...

"The reigning king determined that they were not match for the Demon King and gave his own life to imprison the threat.

"The sages tried to leave something for the people of the future who would have to prepare for the Demon King's revival."

The Stone Slab at the Nestled Ring Ruin: Some Translation Notes
-Tauro

"Whose who...most elite among the...granted...qualifications...are chosen as sages...

"Those...worthy...secret stones...and henceforth...sages."

Clearly the sages are the subject of this slab.

Filling in the blanks, I think it's basically saying, "Talented individuals become sages by taking up secret stones."

The Stone Slab at the Southern Ring Ruin: Some Translation Notes
-Tauro

"Who protect...of Hyrule from the Demon King together... King...

"There were...known as sages..."

What I take from this is that it's about a facet of Hyrule as it was in those days.

If I were to guess at how to fill in the gaps, it'd go something like...

"There were those known as sages, who protected the kingdom of Hyrule from the Demon King."

A translation of the text has been placed near each of the slabs inside. If you're curious, it's all there to be read." — Tauro (Tears of the Kingdom)

Each of the other four Ring Ruins we're allowed to enter has a stone slab with Zonai writing on it. They're precious artifacts, with records from an ancient people about purported sages. There's got to be a fifth slab in that floating Ring Ruin with even more information on the sage. I'm beside myself imagining all the details we might be missing out on!" — Tauro (Tears of the Kingdom)
