The Divine Beast Tamer's Trials are events in Breath of the Wild.[1]

Overview

The Divine Beast Tamer's Trials are a series of challenges assigned to the Champions to prove they are capable of piloting a Divine Beast.[2][3] Four Monuments display the locations of these Trials, each correlating to a single Divine Beast.[4] The events of these Trials were detailed in the Court Poet's Unfinished Song, which was written in the Champions' honor.[5]

In order to tame Divine Beast Vah Rudania, Daruk was tasked with defeating the Igneo Talus Titan at Lake Darman,[6] following a series of Glowing Rings down Death Mountain, and standing on the Lava of Darb Pond.[7][8] Similarly, while taming Divine Beast Vah Ruta, Mipha was tasked with Swimming through a Glowing Ring at dawn in the Lanayru Sea,[9] defeating the Guardians in Upland Zorana,[10] and Swimming through the Glowing Rings on Lulu Lake and Mikau Lake.[11] When Revali was mastering Divine Beast Vah Medoh, he had to shoot Dinraal's horn, pass through Glowing Rings starting at Hebra Peak, and shoot four Targets at the Flight Range.[12][13] Finally, Urbosa tamed Divine Beast Vah Naboris by fighting the Molduking,[14] following Glowing Rings on the West Barrens, and throwing the Sacred Orb into the Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm.[15]

During the "EX The Champions' Ballad" Main Quest, which is exclusive to The Champions' Ballad Downloadable Content Pack, Link can activate his own Divine Beast Tamer's Trial by placing the Sheikah Slate into the Sheikah Slate Pedestal in the Shrine of Resurrection.[1] He will then hear the voice of Monk Maz Koshia, who explains the Divine Beast Tamer's Trial to him.[16] When he completes the Trial on the Great Plateau, the One-Hit Obliterator will split into four glowing orbs and scatter across Hyrule, requiring Link to complete the four other Divine Beast Tamer's Trials.[17] Once this is done, he will be able to face the Final Trial.[18][19] After defeating Monk Maz Koshia, Link will receive his own Divine Beast, the Master Cycle Zero, as a reward.[20][21]

  16. I am Maz Koshia. I now address the one who wishes to master a Divine Beast... To undertake this task requires unwavering dedication. That weapon defeats foes with one hit. However, the reverse is also true, as its wielder will also fall to a single strike. You can use this weapon's ability only twice within a set period of time... only when it is glowing. When enough time passes, the weapon will regain its sheen along with its power. At the four marked locations within the Great Plateau... defeat all monsters present to prove your power. If you are not up to the challenge, leave this plateau. The weapon will return here, and the trial will end. — Monk Maz Koshia (Breath of the Wild)

Now, allow me to bestow upon you one final trial. Return the Sheikah Slate to the terminal you first obtained it from. Do so, and the final passageway will reveal itself... — Monk Maz Koshia (Breath of the Wild)
  20. "You faced the challenge with great courage. You have erased all doubt from my mind. You are a true hero. As such, you were destined to take hold of this ancient masterpiece... — Monk Maz Koshia (Breath of the Wild)
  21. The power within prevailed! You proved your worthiness to Monk Maz Koshia by completing all of the Divine Beast Tamer's Trials. Your gift, the Master Cycle Zero, can be found with your Runes. After the trial, you met with Kass, who sang the completed Champions' Ballad for you. The song helped you recall the distant day you were appointed as a Champion... — Adventure Log (Breath of the Wild)
