Downloadable Content,[1] also abbreviated as DLC,[2] refers to supplemental digital content not present on the original title at launch, which updates or expands upon existing game functionality. Downloadable Content may be distributed through a Local Network or via internet services such as the Nintendo eShop.

Overview

Downloadable content is distributed through the Internet by publishers, either for no additional cost or through some form of monetization, and can range from cosmetics to full expansions.

In 2023, the Nintendo eShop for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS closed, making Downloadable Content unavailable with the exception of "Update via Local Wireless" on the Nintendo 3DS.[3]
