"EX Champion Daruk's Song" is a Main Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1] It is exclusive to The Champions' Ballad DLC pack.

Overview

After finishing the trials of the Great Plateau during "EX The Champions' Ballad", the One-Hit Obliterator will split into four glowing orbs and scatter to different areas of Hyrule Kingdom. When they land, they reveal four ancient structures called Monuments. One of the Monuments appears in the Eldin Canyon on a ledge overlooking the Golow River. As Link approaches the Monument, a voice belonging to an unspecified Monk speaks to him and instructs him to complete the trials at the locations shown to him.[2] Three maps then appear on the Monument's pillars, each revealing the location of a trial that Link must undergo within the Eldin Region.

Kass, who is standing nearby, will make a remark on either the flashing light or the Monument itself, depending on how many Monuments Link has already visited.[3][4][5][6] Noticing Link nearby, Kass is concerned about his ability to withstand the heat.[7] He asks Link if he also drank many Fireproof Elixirs.[8] If Link confirms this, Kass will remark that he is in a similar situation and would fry in a Scorching Climate.[9] However, if Link refutes this, Kass comments that he must have natural immunity to heat.[10]

Dismissing himself, Kass points out the nearby Monument to Link, explaining it was mentioned in his teacher's Unfinished Song.[11][note 2] He wonders if his teacher worked on this Song at this spot.[15] He informs Link that there is a verse in the song that mentions the trials that Daruk overcame, which he will sing for him.[16] The verse provides Link with instructions for completing all three of Daruk's trials.[17]

After playing for Link, Kass asks Link if he was moved.[18][19] His journey has allowed him understand the Champions, which he hopes will help him with finishing the key verses of the Unfinished Song.[20] He recalls that his teacher advised him to travel and meet people in order to write good songs, which has inspired his current way of living.[21] Recently, Kass was able to meet with Yunobo and Bludo, who told him much about Daruk.[22] With their stories, Kass believes he will be able to finish the key verses.[23] Afterwards, the Main Quest will begin.

Link may complete the three trials in any order. The first trial involves defeating the Igneo Talus Titan on the shore of Lake Darman, which reveals the Kamia Omuna Shrine. The second trial has Link follow the Glowing Rings from the top of Death Mountain, and in doing so, unearths the Sharo Lun Shrine. Finally, the third trial tasks Link with safely falling into the Glowing Ring over Darb Pond's lava, thereby revealing Rinu Honika Shrine.

Each of these Ancient Shrines rewards Link with one of Rudania's Emblems upon their completion.[24] The Monk of the Shrine will then inform Link that collecting all three Emblems will unlock a new challenge.[25] They will tell Link how many more trials he has to complete before fading away.[26][27] After completing all three Shrines, the Monk of the third will instruct him to go to Divine Beast Vah Rudania.[28]

As Link approaches the Divine Beast, he is spoken to again by an unspecified Monk, who offers him a trial in his memories in exchange for Rudania's three Emblems.[29] The Monk says the trial will be unforgiving without determination and reminds Link not to dismiss it as simple memories.[30] Link is then transported to the Illusory Realm, a realm created by his memories, where he once again battles Fireblight Ganon on top of Divine Beast Vah Rudania.[31] This Fireblight Ganon is a phantom born from Link's memories and fears.[32]

Link's Armor, equipment, and Items will be changed to the following:

After defeating Fireblight Ganon for the second time, Link is transported back outside of Divine Beast Vah Rudania. He will find Kass nearby, who notices that he appears to still be lost in thought.[33] He informs Link that learning about Daruk's tales has inspired him to write his own song in his honor.[34] He will sing the song to Link,[35] which allows Link to visualize the "Champion Daruk's Song" Recovered Memory from 100 years ago,[36]

After the song, Kass notes that even Champions are capable of fear.[37] He asks Link what he thought of Champion Daruk's Song,[38] and he explains that writing it helped him feel closer to his teacher.[39] Content with his composition, Kass then remarks how Hyrule Castle] would make a suitable setting for his teacher's song.[40]

Link then hears the voice of Daruk, who congratulates him and says he can now use Daruk's Protection more often.[41] If Link ever sees Calamity Ganon, Daruk asks that he tell him good riddance for him.[42] Link receives Daruk's Protection +, which reduces the ability's recharge time to six minutes. After receiving the upgrade, the Main Quest is completed.

Notes

  1. Although the Adventure Log description denotes the location as the Eldin Mountains, the Quest is actually received in the Eldin Canyon.
  2. If this is the first Monument that Link has visited, Kass will explain that it was mentioned in an Unfinished Song written by his teacher.[12] At Link's confusion, Kass explains that it is missing its key verses.[13] He is now on a journey to finish the song.[14]
