"Find Kukiel" is a Side Quest in Skyward Sword.[1] "Find Kukiel" goes unnamed in Skyward Sword HD.

Overview

Once Link places the Ruby Tablet Inside the Statue of the Goddess, he will find Wryna standing outside, calling out for the missing Kukiel.[2][3] She quickly notices Link, and questions him on Kukiel's whereabouts.[4][5] He is unable to tell her, thus, fearing for her daughter's safety,[6] Wryna requests Link's help in locating her.[7][8]

Link is left to ask around Skyloft for any clues as to where Kukiel could have gone. Fledge offers to help him look, but is unable to offer any information himself.[9] Parrow, while sympathetic towards Link,[10] is only able to offer an account of one of Skyloft's legends concerning a Monster that would scare the townspeople and abduct their children.[11]

Orielle, though doubtful of the Monster's existence,[12] directs Link to an old man at the Lumpy Pumpkin who may have more knowledge on the subject.[13][14] The man in question turns out to be Rusta. He tells Link a story of the Skyloft Monster's ferocity, claiming to be the only one to ever see it and live to tell the tale.[15][16] Rusta then recounts that he saw the Monster hit and push a Tombstone in the Graveyard, before entering a storage shed.[17]

Link may then follow those instructions, returning to Skyloft at night, hitting the Tombstone nearest the Graveyard's lone Tree, and pushing it so that the door to a nearby storage shed opens. With the structure accessible, Link may enter to find a Ladder and a flimsy wooden walkway leading to Batreaux's House. Entering the House, Link finds Batreaux standing at the end of the room, next to Kukiel. He and Kukiel were repeatedly screaming loudly before Link entered, but Batreaux apologizes for this, explaining it as part of the "scream-as-loud-as-you-can" game.[18] He then explains to Link his status as a monster, and that, despite that, he would never harm any of Skyloft's residents.[19] Batreaux reveals that he desires to be friends with the people of Skyloft, and Kukiel was the only one who would acquiesce his attempts.[20]

Batreaux then goes on to explain the concept of Gratitude Crystals to Link,[21] as well as his hope that seeing enough of them will transform him from a Monster to a Human,[22] something he greatly wishes for.[23] Batreaux asks Link to gather Gratitude Crystals for him to see,[24][25] detailing exactly how one goes about obtaining them.[26][27] He also promises Link a reward for his assistance.[28]

Should Link speak to Kukiel, she will affirm her safety with Batreaux, and ask Link to let her mother know she is alright.[29] Link can then make his way to Kukiel's House, where Wryna and Jakamar will be reassured by Link's aid.[30][31] Once Link returns in the morning, Kukiel will have returned, and Wryna will be overflowing with gratitude.[32] Her thankfulness produces a set of five Gratitude Crystals for Link.[33] Going forward, Kukiel will now remind Link to fetch as many Gratitude Crystals as he can for use by Batreaux.[34]

  5. "What perfect timing! You haven't seen my Kukiel, have you?" — Wryna (Skyward Sword HD)
  6. "I...I see. Please, Link, won't you help me look for her? I've been looking everywhere, but I can't find her! I've asked everyone I could find for help, and a few people have said she's been spotted with some unknown person with a scary face. Someone else even said they thought they'd seen her carried off by a monster. A monster! She must have been kidnapped! She's so cute and friendly... Someone must have just walked off with her!" — Wryna (Skyward Sword HD)
  7. "Find Kukiel, please! Please! It breaks my heart to think she's somewhere out there, crying! Please, Link!" — Wryna (Skyward Sword HD)
  8. "Thank you! The Knight Academy should be proud to have a student like you. Please, find my daughter quickly!" — Wryna (Skyward Sword HD)
  9. "Huh? Kukiel's gone missing?! We've got to do something! I'll start looking too! Ask around and see if you can find somebody who's seen her, Link!" — Fledge (Skyward Sword HD)
  10. "Whoa! What's the matter, Link? You look pale!" — Parrow (Skyward Sword HD)
  11. "What?! Kukiel is missing? She was abducted by a monster?! You don't think this has anything to do with all those silly stories about a horrifying monster that's been living here in Skyloft for ages, do you? People say the creature appears in the dead of night, scaring folks and even taking away children! Probably nothing more than a scary story some older brother made up to terrorize his younger siblings, but still...it makes me wonder." — Parrow (Skyward Sword HD)
  12. "Did you hear? A child who'd been playing in the graveyard went missing. Can you believe it? Do you really think there are monsters abducting children in our little town?" — Orielle (Skyward Sword HD)
  13. "What?! So there's a chance she was dragged off by a monster? Let's not be ridiculous here. This monster business is going a bit far. Oh... Now that you mention it, there's an old man who lives near here who's always ranting about hidden monsters here in Skyloft... Everyone knows he's a little loony, though, so no one takes him seriously." — Orielle (Skyward Sword HD)
  14. "You want to know where the old man is? I'd imagine he's at the Lumpy Pumpkin, to the east of here, as usual. You'll need to fly your bird there, of course!" — Orielle (Skyward Sword HD)
  15. "You have that gullible look that says you might take an old man's ramblings seriously. So tell me... Do you believe in the Skyloft monster? I shouldn't even call it a monster! It's a demon, I tell ya! But no one can say fer sure because no one's seen it and lived to tell the tale! Wha-huh? You wanna know how come I'm tellin' the tale if nobody who's seen it is left alive? Is that it?" — Rusta (Skyward Sword HD)
  16. "Yeah, well...I saw it, but I was able to escape by the seat of my pants. I was saved by my catlike reflexes, I tell ya! Any regular person wouldn't have lived long enough to scream!" — Rusta (Skyward Sword HD)
  17. "Anyway, I saw the thing, I tell ya! There's a great big tree in the cemetery. I walked by that tree in the middle of the night and... I saw it hit the gravestone nearest the tree, and the gravestone lit up! It pushed the gravestone, and the door to the storage shed opened up all by itself... The monster then went into the shed, and then...it closed the door behind itself, which was unexpectedly polite for a demon... It was the most terrifying thing these old eyes have ever seen! If you're smart, you'll stay clear of the cemetery in the middle of the night!" — Rusta (Skyward Sword HD)
  18. "Stop! Please! I beg of you... don't hurt me! Oh goodness, I know how bad this must look to you right now, but I assure you I meant no harm! We were just playing the scream-as-loud-as-you-can game!" — Batreaux (Skyward Sword HD)
  19. "Isn't that a fun game...? Oh, dear... Perhaps an explanation is in order! My name is Batreaux, and I am a monster who resides here in this humble dwelling below Skyloft. But please allow me to correct one popular misconception. While I'm certainly a monster, I wouldn't dream of terrorizing the people of this town! You see, this adorable little girl is the only one who didn't let loose a blood-curdling scream at the sight of me! Since she began to visit me here, I've felt positively jubilant! You see, my heart's only wish is to become friends with the lovely people of Skyloft. But as you can surely imagine, it has proven quite difficult to break the ice when they are struck with paralyzing fear at the mere sight of me!" — Batreaux (Skyward Sword HD)
  20. "I assure you, nothing would fill my heart with joy more than to be friends with the fine people of this town. But as soon as I try to approach any of them and extend my claw in friendship, they run and scream as though they've seen a walking nightmare. Oh, right... Silly me. I've gotten ahead of myself! You see, there is an old tale among my monstrous kin that goes as follows..." — Batreaux (Skyward Sword HD)
  21. "It seems that when humans make other humans happy, the happy humans produce a substance known as a Gratitude Crystal." — Batreaux (Skyward Sword HD)
  22. "Gratitude Crystals are quite amazing! Just looking at them and knowing there was such a gratitude in the world could turn me from a monster into a human!" — Batreaux (Skyward Sword HD)
  23. "Oh goodness, nothing would delight me more than to become a human! From the moment I laid my regrettably demonic eyes on you, I could tell you had a gentle and generous heart." — Batreaux (Skyward Sword HD)
  24. "Won't you please gather Gratitude Crystals and show them to me?" — Batreaux (Skyward Sword HD)
  25. "Truly?! You'll help me?" — Batreaux (Skyward Sword HD)
  26. "I've heard that you can obtain pure Gratitude Crystals by helping people solve their troubles!" — Batreaux (Skyward Sword HD)
  27. "They could also be merely lying about here in Skyloft or elsewhere among the clouds...anywhere you find people! I'm sure someone with a heart as pure and genuine as yours will be able to see them. Please, solve some troubles and gather me all the Gratitude Crystals you can find!" — Batreaux (Skyward Sword HD)
  28. "Any help you can provide will be dearly appreciated. I promise your assistance will not go unrewarded!" — Batreaux (Skyward Sword HD)
  29. "He's not a bad man! He saved me one time when I almost fell over the edge! And he lets me come here and scream as loud as I want! Anyway, he said it was dangerous to go out alone at night, so I'll just hang out here for a while. Tell my mom I'll come home in the morning!" — Kukiel (Skyward Sword HD)
  30. "Oh! You found Kukiel? Hmm. Well, I guess it's good to hear she's at least with a friendly and responsible adult... But I just can't wait to see her!" — Wryna (Skyward Sword HD)
  31. "What? Are you serious? You found Kukiel? What did I tell you? Nobody here in Skyloft would harm a hair on her head!" — Jakamar (Skyward Sword HD)
  32. "Oh, Link! Kukiel is safely back at home, and it's all because of you! I don't know how to express my gratitude. I can finally smile and laugh again! Thank you ever so much." — Wryna (Skyward Sword HD)
  33. "You got five Gratidue Crystals! These crystals are feelings of gratitude in crystallized form. It must have taken a lot of gratitude to produce this bunch of five crystals! Helping people feels good!" — N/A (Skyward Sword HD)
  34. "Oh, it's you, Link! Uncle Bats told me he wants to see all the grabitude crackles he can! But how's he going to do that?" — Kukiel (Skyward Sword HD)
  35. "Oh, Link! How's it going? Any luck tracking down Zelda? ...I see. Well, we're all pulling for you! By the way, I saw Kukiel's mother heading up towards the temple a little while ago. She looked pretty upset... You don't suppose something happened, do you?" — Fledge (Skyward Sword HD)
  36. "Don't tell me you believe in superstitious hogwash like demons now, do you? Hold on! Are you trying to get Kina to look your way too?!" — Keet (Skyward Sword HD)
