Flag Race
The Flag Race is a Mini-Game in Echoes of Wisdom.[1]
Overview
Flag Races are events held at Hyrule Ranch to train the Ranch's Horses.[1] They are organized by Falfa, who stands just outside the Ranch's main building. Princess Zelda can take part in Flag Races as soon as she receives her Horse in the "Impa's Gift" Side Quest.[2] Each Flag Race has a fee of 10 Rupees to play.[3]
Gameplay and Rules
The goal of Flag Races is to gather a set amount of Flags on a course around Hyrule Ranch within a short amount of time.[4] The Flags must be collected in a set order, as outlined by Falfa at the beginning of each course. There are three courses available to play: the Short Course, the Middle Course, and the Long Course. Each course has its own time limit and number of Flags to collect. Additionally, the paths that Princess Zelda must travel to gather each Flag differs depending on the course. Each course also has a set of obstacles in the form of Wooden Boxes and Decorative Shrubs.[4]

The Short Course is the only option available by default.[8] In order to play the Middle Course, Zelda must complete the Short Course within the specified time limit.[9] Similarly, Zelda can only attempt the Long Course after successfully completing the Middle Course.[10] The Short Course runs the track surrounding the Ranch,[11] and in contrast the Middle Course takes place in Hyrule Field near the Ranch.[12] The Long Course is a hybrid of the Middle Course and Short Course, beginning in Hyrule Field before looping through the track inside the Ranch.[13]
Zelda will be disqualified from a Flag Race if she travels off course,[14] if she takes too long to complete a course,[15] or if she dismounts her Horse.[16]
Rewards
By completing courses significantly faster than the given time limits, Princess Zelda can receive greater rewards.
