Fraaz

Fraaz is the Boss of the Snow Temple in Spirit Tracks.^[1]

Characteristics

At the start of the battle, Fraaz will inflate himself and prepare an attack using either fire or ice. In order to defeat him, Link must target him with the Boomerang after igniting it with the opposing element from one of the two Torches in the center of the room. After enough damage is dealt, Fraaz splits himself into two separate elemental entities, known as Fraaz Jr.^[2] Link must then attack using the same method while using either the map on the upper screen or their attacks to differentiate between the two.

Defeating the pair causes Fraaz to reform and prompts him to destroy the two Torches. From this point forward, Link must repeat the same strategy, only using the elemental attacks of both Fraaz and Fraaz Jr. against them. As the battle progresses into its second and third phases, Fraaz will begin to inflate himself even more with each attack. This will require increasingly more hits with the Boomerang in order to stun him and render him vulnerable to Link's Sword. After sustaining enough damage, Fraaz will inflate himself one final time and explode into dust. This releases the temple's Force Gem, restoring the energy flow of the Tower of Spirits.

Nomenclature

Fraaz's name is derived from the word "freeze," as well as "Blaaz," his predecessor from Phantom Hourglass whose name is a pun on the word "blaze." As such, his name is derived from the words "freeze" and "blaze," considering his ability to freeze and burn.
