Freezing Climates,(BotWBreath of the Wild | TotKTears of the Kingdom)[1][2] also known as Cold Weather,(TotKTears of the Kingdom)[3] are a recurring mechanic in The Legend of Zelda series.[name references needed]

Overview

Breath of the Wild

Freezing Climates are located in snowy locations, such as Mount Hylia, the Hebra Mountains, Mount Lanayru, and the Gerudo Highlands. Other Freezing Climates can be found at high elevations, such as the tops of the Akkala Tower, the Wasteland Tower, and Hyrule Castle. When Link is in one of these Climates, he will begin to shiver and take damage.[1] This can be avoided by wearing the Snowquill Set or Warm Doublet or drinking a Spicy Elixir, all of which will grant Cold Resistance.[1]

When Meat Materials are dropped in Freezing Climates, they will harden into Frozen Food.[4] Much of the Water will also be Cold Water, which causes Link to take damage when he Swims in it.[5]

Echoes of Wisdom

In Echoes of Wisdom, the entirety of Hebra Mountain is a Freezing Climate as the result of a Blizzard. During the Main Quest "Rift on Holy Mount Lanayru", the Blizzard and its Freezing Climate shift, only covering the Mountain's lowest levels. When Zelda is in a Freezing Climate, the screen becomes frosted with Ice, and she gradually begins losing Hearts. The effects of Freezing Climates can be avoided by consuming drinks that provide the Chill-Proof Added Effect, such as Warming Potions or Warm Smoothies. Zelda can also avoid damage by staying close to sources of Fire, including Braziers and Ignizols.
