Linebeck's Letter,[1] also known as "From Linebeck",[2] is an Item in Spirit Tracks.

Location and Uses

Linebeck's Letter is a Letter written by Linebeck Senior to his son, and eventually passed on to his grandson, Linebeck III, prior to the events of Spirit Tracks.[3] It contains clues to finding the Regal Ring, the original Linebeck's buried Treasure valued at 8,000 Rupees, should the younger Linebeck fall on hard times.[4] The Letter reads,

My dear boy,
Even though I'm no longer
with you, I'm sure you're
faring well. But just in
case you run into some
hard times...

I've buried the Regal Ring
in a safe spot for you to
claim. It wouldn't be fun if
I told you exactly where,
though, would it? Use
these clues to find it.

1. To enter the hiding
spot, sound the light and
follow its beam.
2. Inside, go 4 steps north
and 6 steps west from
where the lights cross.

And that's where you'll
discover the treasure! Best
of luck to you! HA HA!

Link uncovering the Treasure Chest found with Linebeck's Letter

When Linebeck III hires the bridge worker Kenzo to repair the bridge to the Ocean Realm, Kenzo estimates the work will cost 5,000 Rupees.[5] Linebeck's plan to cover the bill is to retrieve the Regal Ring; however, as he has been unable to locate it himself, he gives Link the Letter and counts on the young hero to decipher its clues.[6]

To find the Regal Ring, Link must pass through a Like Like-infested cave leading to the north side of the Trading Post, where Linebeck Senior's grave is situated, then learn the Song of Light from a nearby Air Stone. This creates a Beacon with its light pointing to a hidden Shock Switch that grants access to a second, larger cave filled with Octoroks and stone tiles on the ground. By activating two more Beacons, finding where their beams intersect, then walking four tiles north and six tiles west, Link comes to the furthest-northwest tile in the cave. Playing the Song of Discovery there reveals a buried Treasure Chest with the Regal Ring inside.
