Ganon's Curse is an event in The Wind Waker.[1] The curse initially causes Storms and endless night on Greatfish Isle,[2] then spreads to the entire Great Sea after Link and the King of Red Lions visit the island.[3] The curse is lifted when Link obtains Nayru's Pearl.[1]

Overview

After obtaining Farore's Pearl, Link and King of Red Lions sail to Greatfish Isle to find Jabun, the keeper of Nayru's Pearl. The pair finds the island destroyed by Ganondorf, with no sign of Jabun.[4][5] A Storm ravages the island despite there being clear skies everywhere else.[2] As Link sets foot on shore, Quill flies in through the rain to bring word of Jabun at Valoo's request. Valoo considers the island to be cursed.[6]

Quill informs Link that Jabun fled to a cave on Outset Island.[7] He apologetically explains how he had told Tetra's Pirate Crew about the location of Nayru's Pearl in an attempt to get information about Link's whereabouts.[8] The pirates attempted to break into the cave but were unable to get past its stone seal.[9]

Link and the King of Red Lions sail to Windfall Island where Tetra's Pirate Crew was last seen.[10] The storms persist as they leave Greatfish Isle, the curse having ostensibly spread to the entire Great Sea. On Windfall Island, Link learns that the pirates were acquiring Bombs to blast open the stone seal protecting Jabun's cave. Link manages to get some from the pirate ship's hold by beating Niko's rope-swining challenge. Tetra discovers this through the Gossip Stone, but gives Link until morning to get to Jabun first.[11] As Ganon's Curse had cast the Great Sea into an endless night, Link arrives at Outset Island before dawn without trouble.[3]

Link and the King of Red Lions blast their way into Jabun's cave and receive Nayru's Pearl. They then exit the cave to find that the Storm has abated—Ganon's Curse was broken by the power of Nayru's Pearl.[1] Dawn breaks shortly after.

Are you ready, LinkAppears in-game as the player's chosen name.? I have marked the places where you must set the pearls on your Sea Chart. Once you have placed each of the pearls in its proper location, the proving grounds for your courage will become apparent. — King of Red Lions (The Wind Waker HD)

  3. 3.0 3.1 Have you noticed, LinkAppears in-game as the player's chosen name.? Morning has not broken since we arrived at Greatfish Isle—the land that was so ravaged by monsters. It is as if time itself is frozen. Perhaps this is the curse that Valoo spoke of? Whatever the reason, if this night does not end, then we need not worry about the pirates overtaking us. — King of Red Lions (The Wind Waker HD)
  4. Wh-What is the meaning of this? The island... It is... ...We are too late. I knew we had precious little time, but I never suspected how little... A great water spirit named Jabun once lived here, but no sign of him remains... — King of Red Lions (The Wind Waker HD)
  5. Just look at how this place has been torn to pieces... I suppose this, too, is the work of the shadow in Forsaken Fortress. — Quill (The Wind Waker HD)
  6. Valoo must have been right when he asked me to bring word of Jabun to you... He called this island cursed... — Quill (The Wind Waker HD)
  7. But fear not! Jabun was able to flee this island before it was attacked. He is in a safer abode now. Would you like to guess where that abode may be? ...On the island where you were born. On Outset. — Quill (The Wind Waker HD)
  8. ...I must apologize, LinkAppears in-game as the player's chosen name.. I thought if anyone would know of your whereabouts, it would be the pirates. I told them this tale without so much as a thought for the consequences. I don't know what they hoped to get, but they immediately set sail for Outset Island and tried to break into the cave. — Quill (The Wind Waker)
  9. Yet even if you were to go to Outset now, you would not be able to see Jabun. The cave where he hides is sealed with a mighty stone slab that repels all who try to pass it. Why, not even the pirates with their mighty ship could get in... — Quill (The Wind Waker HD)
  10. ...It is lucky they could not gain entrance. I have heard that they were last spotted on Windfall Island, but doing what, I do not know. If you wish to see Jabun, I think you'd better search for the pirates on Windfall Island. — Quill (The Wind Waker HD)
  11. We're going to relax in town and eat our fill of whatever this town has to offer, but we'll be leaving for Outset first thing in the morning. If you manage to find Jabun tonight, then I guess you win. But if you take too long, we'll come sailing right by you tomorrow morning! And believe me, you didn't get ALL of our bombs. You'd better be quick, kid! — Tetra (The Wind Waker HD)
