Biography

Breath of the Wild

Gartan is a Hylian Merchant that can be found traveling on foot in the Gerudo Desert.[4] He carries a Wooden Shield and a Traveler's Sword as he travels between Gerudo Canyon Stable and the entrance to Gerudo Town. Along the way, he passes through Kara Kara Bazaar.

Gartan is very interested in Gerudo women.[5][6][7][8] He is very defensive of this, claiming that business is his top priority.[9] He is disappointed that he is not allowed to move into Gerudo Town.[10]

Gartan enjoys being a Merchant because it gives him an excuse to talk to the Gerudo.[11] At Kara Kara Bazaar, Gartan is excited about making small talk with the Gerudo there.[12] Gartan then says that it is just part of his job to make friends and asks Link if he wants some Apples.[13] However, he admits that he gets nervous around Gerudo ladies.[14]

While Divine Beast Vah Naboris is still active, Gartan reveals that it makes traveling to Gerudo Town from Kara Kara Bazaar dangerous.[15] However, he refuses to let it stop him from meeting Gerudo women.[16] He is also very worried about the presence of thieves in Gerudo Town.[17]

Gartan considers the term "wasteland" to be accurate when describing the Gerudo Desert, as there are many Monsters and Sandstorms.[18] However, he does not know how else someone is supposed to meet Gerudo women.[1][19]

Gartan can also be found at the Gerudo Canyon Stable, where he tells Link that he wishes more Gerudo ladies would come by.[20][21] Gartan sometimes mutters about his determination to get into Gerudo Town and get close to the women.[22] When he notices Link listening, he tells him that he was just muttering about "important business secrets."[23]

Gartan journeyed to Gerudo Town to get to know the Gerudo better, but he did not find out men were not allowed until he got there.[24] Link can catch him muttering to himself that there must be a way into the Town.[25] When he notices that Link is listening, he is startled and nervously explains that he was just thinking out loud to nobody.[26][27]

If Link saves Gartan from Monsters, he may say how close of a save it was to himself.[28] He considers the only thing scarier than Monsters to be Gerudo women.[29] His strategy for surviving attacks is to run away.[30] He gives Link Rupees as a reward for saving him.[31]

Link can buy Items from Gartan.[32] He thanks Link for his purchases.[33][34] When Link buys all of one of his products, he apologizes that he has run out.[35] He is grateful for Link's business when all of his stock is bought out.[36] In addition to selling his wares, Gartan will also purchase Items from Link.[37][38][39] He is appreciative of the products he is able to buy, and he asks if Link has more for him.[40][41]

Tears of the Kingdom

Gartan is a traveler who has set up a Tent at the Digdogg Suspension Bridge, which he rests in at night. During the day, he can be seen near the Massive Zonai Ruin.

When Link speaks to Gartan, he will warn him about Naia's quiz.[42] If Link questions him about the quiz, Gartan reveals that all of the questions are based on extreme Heat and Freezing Climates, and he has been studying so he can enter Gerudo Canyon.[43] He also explains that it never Rains in Gerudo Canyon, and he wonders how one is supposed to splash themself with Water.[44] While he is asleep at night, he complains about the test.[45]

After Link has passed Naia's quiz, he is able to inform Gartan. Upon hearing this, he is jealous and accuses Link of boasting.[46][47]
