The Giant Horse is a massive Wild Horse with charcoal-colored fur. Its mane and tail are a distinctly orange color, and it is found in the Taobab Grassland among a herd of regularly-sized Horses. While it is the last of its breed, the Giant Horse is considerably stronger than other Horses.[3] Due to its wild temperament, only skilled riders can tame it.[3]
Link must capture the Giant Horse in order to complete the "Hunt for the Giant Horse" Side Quest, given by Straia at the Mounted Archery Camp. Straia and Jini came to the Faron Grasslands to see the Giant Horse, but have been unable to reach it due to Monsters in the area.[4] Straia asks Link to catch the Giant Horse on their behalf.[5] Once Link has mounted the Giant Horse and southed it, he must ride past two Lynels in order to return to the Mounted Archery Camp. Seeing the Giant Horse, Straia determines that it is an endemic species, [6] He thanks Link for assisting in their research and gives him a Silver Rupee as a reward.[7]
Registering the Giant Horse at a Stable equips this Horse with a Bridle and Saddle that are part of the Giant Horse Gear set of Horse Gear.[8] However, if Link tries to change into a different piece of Horse Gear, Stable workers will refuse, stating that they do not have anything large enough to fit it.[9]
The Giant Horse cannot gallop and has poor speed, but it is one of the strongest steeds available as compensation. Though its speed is ranked poorly, it does travel considerably faster than other Horses of the same speed stat as it takes much larger steps.
Tears of the Kingdom
The Giant Horse can be found on Hateno Beach. Alternatively, if Link had the Giant Horse registered in Breath of the Wild, its save data will be carried over.
Trivia
- The Giant Horse bears a resemblance to Ganondorf's Horse, which was also a large Horse with black fur and an orange mane.
- The Giant Horse, the White Horse, the Giant White Stallion, the Satori, and Patricia are the only individuals to get their own unique entries in the Hyrule Compendium separate from the rest of their species.
- The White Horse is one of nine rideable Creatures in Breath of the Wild. The other eight are the Horse, the White Horse, the Lord of the Mountain, the Mountain Buck, the Mountain Doe, the Stalhorse, the Honeyvore Bear, and the Grizzlemaw Bear.
