Gibdo Mausoleum is a Level in Tri Force Heroes.[1] It is the third Level of The Dunes Area, preceded by Stone Corridors and followed by the Desert Temple.

Themes and Navigation

Gibdo Mausoleum is an ancient desert tomb filled with Quicksand and numerous pits. Because the Links will sink in the Quicksand if they stand still in it for too long, the Dunewalker Duds becomes useful in this Level.

A Key drops after the Links select their Items, Stage 1

In Stage 1, the Links begin at the entrance of the tomb, where immediately to the north is a Quicksand-filled room with fences throughout and strips of solid ground along the sides. A Gripshot, Gust Jar, and Fire Gloves lay before them. After taking the Items, a Key drops from the ceiling, which falls into the Quicksand and is quickly seized by a moving Sand Mound; actually a Karat Crab beneath the sand. The Links must fight the Crabs to claim the Key, but they will disappear into the sand if approached while covered. The Gust Jar can be used to uncover them, and Bomb Flowers are also provided on either side of the room to attack them with. The Links must also be careful of Morths to the north of the room, which will cling onto the Links if they get close. Once the Karat Crab carrying the Key is defeated, the Links must quickly take it before another Crab comes to reclaim it, which will then pursue after the Links as they carry it to the door. The Karat Crabs however are unable to move onto the solid flooring, making it a safe spot. Once the door is opened, the Links can proceed to the Triforce Gateway.

The first wave of Enemies in Stage 2

In Stage 2, the Links appear in a small room filled with Quicksand and Morths, with a pit in the center. As the Links enter, Skullropes will suddenly spawn. After they are defeated, Stalfos and a Fire Keeleon appear. Their defeat brings more Skullropes and another Fire Keeleon. After the last of the Enemies are defeated, the Morths will disappear, and the door to the Triforce Gateway opens.

Revealing invisible platforms with the Fire Gloves, Stage 3

In Stage 3, the Links appear on a ledge overlooking an enormous chasm. Red-colored platforms can be seen, but then immediately disappear as the Links enter. These platforms are invisible but are heat-sensitive, and will become temporarily visible whenever a fireball cast from the Fire Gloves lands on them. Knowing this, the Link with the Fire Gloves uses them to lead the other Links as they find their path. Along the way, the Links also encounter Fire Keeleons. These Keeleons can be reached by forming a Totem of two, allowing the Link with the Fire Gloves to focus on the platforms while the other two Links to fight them off. Several Red Rupees and a Purple Rupee can also be found sitting on the pillars, which can be grabbed with the Gripshot. Eventually the heroes come to a moving platform leading to another set of heat-sensitive platforms that lead northwest to the Triforce Gateway. If the Links go northeast instead, they will find another set of these platforms leading to a Squiddy.

Stage 4

In Stage 4, the Links drop down to a platform with five dormant Gibdos. Three of the Gibdos standing in tomb-like doorways suddenly reanimate. As these Enemies are defeated, the other two dormant Gibdos also reanimate. After they are all defeated, the Triforce Gateway appears.

Drablands Challenges

Once the Boss of The Dunes has been defeated, Gibdo Mausoleum can be replayed with the following Drablands Challenges: "Clear within the time limit!", "Only Bombs—no swords!", and "Avoid falling and quicksand!".

In "Clear within the time limit!", the Links are given a timer of one minute and 30 seconds in Multiplayer, or two minutes in single-player. This timer can be increased by collecting Hourglasses or wearing Linebeck's Uniform.

In "Only Bombs—no swords!", the invisible platforms in Stage 3 have several Cracked Blocks obstructing their paths, forcing the Links to stop and destroy them while the Fire Keeleons hover nearby.

Materials

At the end of the Level, three Treasure Chests can be opened. Two contain the same Material, and one contains another, more valuable Material.

Trivia

  • As alluded to in Vol. 7 of the Drablands Diary, a "hieroglyph" of Link is hidden on a wall in each Level of The Dunes. He can be found in Stage 3 of Gibdo Mausoleum by taking the invisible platforms toward the Squiddy, then shifting the camera to the right to see the east wall.
